What do I call these bushings?

I have a 1980 oldsmobile cutlass and have the rear end out of car. What do I call the two bushings that are on top of the differential?

Rear end or ''differential housing" bushings might be a little more descriptive in this case. They are not part of the control arms.

These are similar to the ones I have installed. Search for the ones you need for your model. Local auto part stores might have these in stock, probably not.

All eight bushings in the rear suspension (including the two on the rear axle) are exactly the same part number, so "rear control arm bushings" is the correct term.

Correct term is rear differential housing upper control arm bushing.

WHICH WILL MAKE A HILL OF BEANS DIFFERENCE AS THE AUTO PARTS STORE WILL STILL NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT...LOL

Now on A-body GM from 1965-1972 are the same, BUT NOT ALL ARE THE SAME for other years. 1973-1977 HAVE DIFFERENT SIZE REAR DIFFERENTIAL UPPER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS FROM THE LOWER ONES, SAME WITH THE 1964 A-BODY THEY ARE SMALLER IN DIAMETER for the upper bushing on the cast center section.

So to clarify you should be specific when you ask for these bushing on other rears than the A-body 1965-1972.

Good luck, Jim

Does anyone have a part number for these 8 control arm bushings?

I need the two on top of the rear end, then the 6 for the control arms.

I am so confused if I have the right ones. I do not want to order the right ones, then have to send them back. I have been using advanced auto parts.

Thanks.

These are the rears you need 8 of them assuming a 68-72 a body

these are the front uppers you need 4 of them ......the front lowers may have a rear oval bushing or it may be round Id wait to get those till you have the arm out they are not the same as the front uppers

thanks for looking that up. My car is a 1980 Olds Cutlass Supreme though.

Is the 80 Considered a A-Body, or is it G?

IDK much about the 80s car but the fr upper is pn k6176.

The fr lower is k6177

The rear is listed as k6178 if they are similar to the a body all 8 rear are the same but idk that for sure, look at your existing ones they are probably all the same

When pressing them in and out of the arms support the open end of the arm near the bushing so it doesn't bend during install. To remove you can dent one side of the old bushing w a cold chisel, this breaks up any rust tension and allows penetrant in easy so they knock out easy.

To install in the diff I make sure the new bushing is straight and rap it hard w a 5 lb hammer protecting the bushing w a 2x4 they will typically pop right in up to the shoulder on the bushing w 1 or 2 hits.

When they wear out. I replaced the factory ones on my car's original rear back in the 90s.
