help me choose the right auto trans

i'm setting up the drivetrain on my 67 2 door hard top..

engine : 330ci, 4bbl, stock internals.
headers & holley (600 cfm carb & intake)

rear gear : currently 3.08 one wheel peel (maybe someday a ltd slip.. same ratio though)

its a sunday fun car, not a strip dragger or race car. ill be lookin for off line pull- but good highway manner.

3 speed TH seems to be the easy pick, i suppose a TH 350 or TH 375? or is the TH400 an option?

thanks for your input!

There are many threads here that can be of help to you in the tranny section. You probably now have the 2 speed Jetaway...easiest swap would probably be a BOP TH 350. You would need a tranny, kick-down cable and gas pedal set up out of a car that had a TH350, and I believe the throttle cable and bracket(4bbl) also...after that, the only issue I forsee is how you shift indicator will read. Other guys will be able to tell you more specifics!

The TH350 is an easy swap. The TH400 is bulletproof, if overkill. The 200-4R can be modified to survive if you want an OD trans.

TH 350 would be your best choice.

thx everyone,

i had removed a TH350, someone had previously installed..it has a vacuum modulated kickdown, but so much internal damage that i couldnt trust a rebuild of it.

I may go TH400, which actually are on sale at Summit for under 800 bucks!

If you go with the turbo 400 I believe you will have to shorten the driveline and relocate the tranny mount. The kick down on the 400 is done with a electric switch at the carb, not a cable like the 350 has. I would stick with the 350 unless you plan on updating the 330 to a large displacement engine that has been built up.

on another board someone has recommended the 200R4, which - from my previous information- seemed to be a weak transmission ... i was misinformed though.

i might go TH 200R4 ...if i can find one!

If you go with 200R4 have it beefed up or it will break. Check back through the threads in this forum. This has been discussed several times in the past

The turbo 400 is a bulletproof tranny designed for BIG block cars with lots of torque.....It takes somewhere around an additional 25 hp to run that tranny verses the turbo 350 which was designed for mainly small blocks, and you have a smaller of the small blocks.......Just something to consider when you are making your decision

I vote for the 200R4. I bought mine from a builder in Kentucky who is a retiree from GM. He can supply you with a unit that will take all the HP you can muster. He builds according to what you are driving it with. My 98 with injected 425 gets nearly 20 mpg. If you would like to pursue, let me know. Bruce

Do you mean fuel injected? If so how? and do you have any pictures?

Yes, it's fuel injected. I bought the setup from Mass Air Flow in Massachusetts. They have a site on-line. Let's try this picture??
