Evaporative canister

You know the canister I'm referring to, the one that recovers fuel vapors from the carb. and tank. Were these originally filled with charcoal ( like in a fish tank filter) ? I would like to restore mine if it would be functional. Otherwise, I'll just plug the lines. Fusick has an original element that goes on the bottom, but there must be something that goes inside the canister between the top and bottom. Thanks, Chumley

Yes, they were filled with charcoal. I've always heard them referred to as "charcoal canisters." I don't believe these items wear out. Just remove it from your car and clean it thoroughly on the outside. Reinstall it and you should be good to go.
