deal of the century

This has got to be the best deal ever. A little while ago I found the red '61 Cutlass, which I thought was a great deal. But this is even better. I have been on the look out for a '68 Cutlass/442 for some time.I want a 442 but a Cutlaas is just as good. My #3 son is a fireman in Reno Nevada. He had run across the Cutlass about two years ago, but the owner did not want to sell. He took my sons name and number and that was it. Well the other day the owner calls and ask if he still wanted the car. My son said heck yes, the man is 99 years old and had side swipe the garage door frame and dicided it was time. The owner had bought it new and went to Lansing and drove it home to Carson City NV. I'm the second owner.
It has a/c p/drum, p/steer, tilt wheel, cruise control, am/fm radio, p/windows, p/bucket seat, map lite, p/trunk release, tinted glass, rear window defroster. I'm still figureing it all out. I just got it home over the weekend. The best part, he only wanted $1300. I'm just in aw of this man and his car. He is the nicest man you could ever meet.
It has a million door dings and need work on the passenger side. I need a rear bumper. It is a repaint from a number od years ago, but still looks good.
It is a great driver and I can't wait to drive with all the windows down, just cruzing.

Nice car. I would love to find one in that shape (and price) in Ohio. You west coast guys are lucky to not have to deal with the rust. I find my best deals are a car someone started to re-do then lost interest. Later, Ken

Nice find! You don't need to find another bumper, just get that one straightened and chromed. Any chrome plater worth taking it to can make it factory straight. What you'll end up with with will be be literally better than new!

Looks familiar. The color is Willow Gold if you did not already know. How the heck they think this looks gold is a mystery to me.

The rear bumper looks like it had some kind of hitch on it. If you look close you can see the broken out holes on both sides of the licence plate, plus it has major cracks from the holes to the edge of the bumper. I have found a nice 442 bumper. Now I'm going to put on Dual exhaust. Disc brakes will be next. At first I thought of a T-350 or 200r4, but it drives and shifts great. Maybe later. May do some wheels this summer. It is a 350 with a 2V carb, and it does great on gas. Everything works except for the cruse control, I will have to work on that.
I'm real happy with this car, it drives and rides great.

Gene, I'll tell you what. Knowing how much of a perfectionist you are and how demanding you can be of your vehicles I don't think that car will make you happy so this is what I'm going to do. I'll give you say.........$2,000 for your trouble and you can just park it until I get over to the left coast to pick it up. What do you say????

Well I did a couple of things to the Cutlass. I think the is a vacuum leak somewhere, for the cruise still needs work and the vacuum trunk release only seams o work while the engine is running, and omly after about 6 or 7 push on the button. I've got time to check it out. i found the tail light lens from an F-85, they have the chrome ring all the way around the lens, instead of divided into two sections. I like the full ring better. What do you think?
The wheels are ok, they look pretty good. I got them in a trade for some labor, they will do for now.
Also looking for a '68 442 grille.
