'65 Cutlass mirror...2 differnet styles?

Ok... I purchased a new '65 Mirror from Fusick and it is not the same one that is on the car now. Did they offer two different styles that year? The mounting holes are in different spots, and the mirror base that is on the car now appears to have never been off the car, due to the paint being nice and new under the gasket seal...

1965 Mirrors

Are they both remote or non-remote? I've seen those two style on the 1965 and they have a very different appearance. Can you post a photo of it so others with 1965's can compare it to theirs? John

Yes, pics please. Always possible that the car did not come with one and the original owner added it.

Not in '65. My guess is that '68 was the first year they were required.

65 MIRROR

The mirror you got from Fusick is the correct one, it uses a mounting base that is screwed to the door and the mirror attaches with a set screw to the bracket.

The mount on your car does not look familiar to me at all, I doubt that it is an Olds mirror.
What you bought looks right.

Does anyone have a '65 so I can get measurement on where the original is supposed to be mounted? I would like to get it as close as possible...

Well that was interesting to look up. Overall, 1966 was the first year for the standard outside rv mirror.
In '65 it was standard on the Starfire converts and the 98 converts only.

If someone else doesn't get it for you sooner I can take some pictures with a tape measure late this week. Did your new mirror come with the mounting bracket? John

Yes it did.. so I am good there. If a previous owner installed that mirror, it must have been done a long time ago.. the paint underneath it looks brand new.

Besides the factory correct mirror you bought from Fusick, there was another ten or so different styles available from the dealer according to your taste...the base mounted on your car does not however show up in my accessory catalogues pictures from '60 to '67...the '65 GM cat number is 658...also there is a matching right side!!!

My mirror is slightly different from the one on your car and the one you bought. Here are the pics anyway.

I hope it helps in some way.

I'm sorry, it may just be me, but Impin', is that a correct mirror? It doesn't look like it from what I see.

Impin has the remote mirror.

Id take that broke base off the door and see if the two small holes for the stock mirror mount are there. I had a template for mounting the stock mirror but I cant find it. I have an NOS mirror on mine and the template came in the box with it.

The holes are in a different pattern unfortunately.. I can hide them under the new base.. but I feel that mounting the base where the present one is, puts the stock mirror too low.. but I might not have a choice... can you shoot me a picture of your NOS installed mirror straight on?

wmachine....i've seen it in a few mags and on a few others. I'll see can find other cars with that same mirror. If it's not, it'll just be one other thing I need to replace.

Mirror is mounted in the middle of the door crease, 4 3/4 inches from the front of the door, 1 3/4 inches up from the door crease.

Youll need the small mount that screws to the door in order to mount the mirror.

1965 Mirror Mounting

Well the more I look at this topic the more complicated it gets! I have two project cars, a 1964 Cutlass and a 1965 442. They both have remote mirrors that I believe are the same as the one Impin has. Then I have three parts cars, one 1964 F85 2 door and one 1965 4 door that have a mirror much like the one TK-65 has. I also have a 1965 4 door parts car with just the mounting bracket. These three brackets are all slightly different, and even the two non-remote mirrors have slightly different bases! So how many different kinds of mirrors could be had on a 1964 or 1965 Cutlass platform??? Yellowstatue, was there really 10 different ones?

Attached are some photos of measurements for the mounting bracket. I have posted several more photos of the different mirrors and bases on my photobucket site. You can view those at: http://s90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...20Oldsmobiles/

This is the only one with the base being angled.

Smile Mirrors for the masses

Yes, there were a bunch...under the heading Mirrors-outside/Custom there are eight, but all GM's..so depending on what year item 3 or 6 would be for a Cutlass or a full size...and then under Mirrors-outside General purpose...there are five more styles....and then there are the remotes..'64-'65 F85 PN982395..'64 Olds 33-34-35-38-39 PN982202...this is out of GM cat #658 page 34 & 35..hope this helps add to the confusion
