Wheel / Tire upsize 69 Cutlass S
Hey ya'll,
I'm currently running stock SSII wheels with 215/70 rubber. Does anyone know what's the widest and tallest tire that will fit on the stock rims which I think are 14 x 6? What about the largest wheel/tire combination that would fit without mods or any rubbing issues? Maybe bigger will be better. Thanks, Rob

Probably not the biggest that can go but I always liked P245/60R14's on the factory rims. They fit the rims right with not even close to problems in the wheelwells. It seems they approximate original tire height pretty close for accurate speedometer readings. I have run 225/70's before and they looked and fit alright but I like the 245/60's better.

A cool tip I use is to look when at the Car Shows and right them numbers down. Sister Cars Chevelle's and Buick's Skylarks Tires #S work as well.

Ok, thanks for the tips and info. I would possibly go with the SSII 15 x 7's if I could find some at a decent price. I'll have to check around. Appreciate the help guys.
Rob

Wheels
The snap on center caps style of 15X7 are easy to find although I like the looks of bolt on centers better. Another thought would be the 14X7 SSII wheels that were used in the early 1970's with bolt on centers. Those wheels are still pretty common. I had a set of 265/50/14 on the front of a 1971 Cutlass years ago. They did rub on the sway bar with the wheel turned all the way in one direction or another. Right now I have 245/60/14 all the way around on my 1970 442 and a set of 235/60/14 on a 1967 442, I think they both look nice. John
