Yesterday my job took me to a neighboring town where I was to meet with a guy to discuss a water line across public land. Well, that's what took me to his front door but once I was there I was in awe. My first clue that he was a car guy was the early 1950's Chebby sedan delivery in front of his house. After we talked business he wanted to show me his "collection" The yard behind his house was full of 1920's to 1950's cars and parts, he guessed there were about 200 cars there, most in pieces. He builds street rods and his specialty is fabricating body panels. He has bult his own jigs and patterns for various body panels, one example he showed me was to fabricate 1934 Ford door skins. He also had various presses with dies to put in the body lines and ridges. He showed me some of his finished products and the stuff was amazing. His skill is a gift and he stays busy building cars to sell and with local orders for body panels. He's probably in his late 60's and has at least a couple lifetimes of projects in his yard, barn, shop, sheds. Not exactly the kinds of projects we talk about here, but it was still a place for a car guy to get lost for a while roaming the piles of "treasure" John

Yeah,I always like stumbling into places like that,the older the better.I was in a guys garage this summer in florida,he was in his late sixties,even his tools were antique.Very cool!later on,BO

 

We have a junk yard about 3 miles from my place that has nothing newer than 1960 15 years ago they were nice. Now they are a pile of rust. So sad to see such relics rot away.

OK- so now let's get this back upbeat! It's still great to see at least SOME of those collections being put to good use! My hat's off to every one of them! As for the others, if I was in the States, I'd be tempted to offer the owner good, hard cash for the entire property including cars!
