5 speed '77 cutlass

I saw this and figured it had to be equipped with the little 260. I think this was discussed before but just wanted to give everyone a "heads up" on an actual example of one.

Cool.

As I recall Joe mentioned that the 5 speed manual was common in the late 70s behind a wheezing 6 banger.

Not common, but not rare. That dealer has the typical mile long line of BS.

Wasn't that car part of the Jack Safro collection that was sold earlier this year--maybe Mecum at Indy?

Yeah - the longer the BS, the higher the reserve price. I'm especially skeptical of ads that quote the marketing brochures, or worse, the Olds FAQ. Please just tell me the facts about the particular car in the ad.

If I remember correctly isn't that 5-speed a very weak tranny. Anything larger then the 260 and the tranny grenades.

Right you are Pat. I don't even think I would want of those 5 speeds behind my 307 with 179k miles.

Actually, it shifts and drives pretty smooth. There's just no power or torque to it.

I can imagine. I mean the 260 is just like a big 231...lol. Only has just a bit more torque. I guess they made it so people would think it's got more power cause it's a V8.
