Lynyrd Skynyrd Keyboardist Dead At 56

Billy Powell died of a heart attack early this morning at his home in Fla. He survived the Plane crash in 1977, but has been plagued with heart problems. He could play rockin' boogie-woogie, dixieland style, or just nice piano..

Rock on Billy

If ever a band was seemingly cursed, Skynyrd was it.

Scares me because he was only four years older than me... and looks like ALL my rock'n'roll heroes are old.

Some of the band members and/or wives did not get along.

I recently learned that the lead guy for Blackfoot was in Lynyrd Skynyrd. Blackfoot rocks a little harder then LS. Yes, gentlemen we are not getting any younger. Enjoy everyday.

Yeah.. Ricky Medlock has been in Skynyrd for at least 10 years.. he joined in "95-96

He (Ricky) was Skynyrds first drummer in the early '70's, the guy can play anything.

Also, one of my favorite guitarists of the southern rock movement Hughie Thomasson was the Stratocaster player in the reformed Skynyrd untill he reformed The Outlaws. I saw one of his last shows before he died too young in Sept 2007. That show was a Volunteer Jam with The Marshall Tucker Band, The Outlaws and The Charlie Daniels Band.
