You may want to consider joining the OCA....Oldsmobile Club of America....the annual meet is held in a different state every year. Membership provides a monthly newsletter with parts and cars for sale too.

I used to be part of the OCA. I wasn't too active since I was in college. I should join again. I know there is a local club in OKC about an hour away from where I am.

Up here the nothern california chapter's web site is a joke. It looks circa 1997, it's still hosted by geocities! It's poorly, if ever updated.

Yes it is true that some chapters of the OCA are pretty much dead. The DVOC, Delaware Valley Chapter covering NJ, PA., and Delaware, is pretty active with 2 shows a year, a Spring Dustoff, and gets involved with participation in other chapters' shows. There are meetings four times a year and a quarterly 10 page newsletter. We have 85 members. It all depends on how active the members are and how much each individual wants to pitch in. This is what makes a good chapter verses a dead one. As for websites it takes people willing to update and keep on top of things. A dead website doesnt necessarily mean a dead chapter but it would certainly indicate that to an outsider.

Thanks to you all for your replies.
Unfortunately the comments about dead websites are on the money... but only to the internet savvy. Things are the same here in Australia with some car clubs very active in their runs and meetings but very much behind the times when it come to websites. As those of you who have visited my sites know, they are not the best looking sites nor are they as simple to join as this one or many of the others I have been to, but they are there and they are frequented because I try to keep them interesting, active and promote them. In showing my girlfriends Holden and holdens I have had, we found many car enthusiasts coming to us for information regarding Clubs because one of Australia's biggest car sales magazines decided to put their Club listings Online... and these people didn't have the internet or in many cases a computer ! A smaller mag began to support the written listings of Car Clubs and Club outings and has grown because of it. Good for them . I been in quite a few Club's where even the Committee was too short-sighted to see the importance of their internet presence... and they stagnate. The Olds Club of Australia is one of them ... I am a member and will hopefully remain so for some time to come but they have done little to show me they give a thought to anyone driving a 60's Olds. I gave them www.oldsmobileclubofaustralia.com and they still need to have a Committee meeting to "approve it" ... well too bad ... it goes to their site already ! ![]() So support your Clubs and hey, go along to a meeting / Club run and actually meet the members ... you never know, you might even join ! cheers

Gary, you have a good positive attitude, unlike mine ! The internet has been a part of our lives now for 15 years, it's about time some of these people USE it ! (the internets is the tool of the devil!)
I'm sure someone said the same thing 15 years after the telephone came into use. |

what ? you mean I don't need to keep my carrier pidgeons ?
easy MM,
hehehe. Remember you are also talking about a country who has effectively disarmed it's shooters ! ( yes I was one of those gun toting, potential mass murders that owned a Mini 14 Ruger AND a pump action 12 guage ... actually they did me a favour on the 12 guage ... it owed me 50 bucks and they "bought it back" for $380 ! I had only had it 4 weeks )Car Clubs over here are important for the same reasons ... idiots in Government and Police who would like to see all vehicles 20years or more old removed from our roads and recycled into Japanese Whaling vessels ( ooops we oppose them too ). Scrappers are getting primo dollar for nice, old, HEAVY vehicles at this time ... you should see what is being dragged out of farms - I nearly died laughing at a small convoy of flat trays and an escort vehicle that had quite clearly got their cargo from someones dried up swamp ... including an old bus ![]() But seriously, the only way the public will vote to scrap older vehicles is if their only recollection of them is the last smoke blowing 70's Datsun they saw some nut driving like an idiot. so the Clubs and others in these cars NEED TO BE SEEN . I am looking to run FREE TO THE PUBLIC car displays of pre-plastic cars, having set up - Steel Bumpered Auto Promotions as a business name in the last month... just to this end. more soon
