Old spot welds, Is there an easy way to find them?
Old spot welds, Is there an easy way to find them?
I can get to all of them most times. And rather than grind off a single layer of metal. I would rather find the welds and drill them out. Thank you

If the metal is still in good shape you can lightly grind or sand the paint off. The spot welds will show as circular depressions.
If the metal is rusty I ussually cut next to the lap joint on the scrap side. Get enough of the rusty metal out of the way so I can pry the joint open to find the spot welds. Some will pop or I can drill them with a spot weld cutter. Tougher ones I cut on both sides and keep prying, popping & cutting til I get to the end. Then go back and grind off the tough ones. Hope this helps. Don |
