1970 442 project Twilight Blue
1970 442 W-25 Hardtop Project
The VIN tells you its a 442 and this one was built in Lansing MI along will all W30s & W31s.
The car has it’s original engine & OG trans and a 12 bolt rear.
It is Twilight Blue, (code 28 same as Fathom Blue) with white PAINTED top stripes and a parchment bucket seat interior.
It does not have a broadcast card or any paperwork, but based on originality we can determine that this car more than likely came from the factory with the W-25 OAI hood.
Engine needs one sleeve for certain as it has a cracked piston & gouged cylinder. Do have later 455 block to include.
Has original Olds/GM repairable W25 hood from another 442. Has NOS deck lid.
Most engine parts, but missing OAI air cleaner set up.

Trunk and Floors are solid.
Bottom of front fenders can be patched as can one quarter panel. One will need replaced.
Car was parked in 1987 with approx 60,000 miles and stored indoors.

Wheels and tires on car now are NOT included and will have some bones on it, so it can roll.
Not looking to part it out at this point.

What gear ratio did the speedo reducers start getting used?
There was a posi sticker on deck lid, but rear is coded SE and no posi tag present, so a 3.23 open rear in it.

I never thought to look for the ratio adapter. The 3.23 did not have an adapter but the 3.42 and 3.91 did. I can't remember off the top of my head but I think the adapter had a different ratio between the 3.42 and the 3.91. If you get the code off the adapter we could look up what it was maybe.

Yes, there would/should be a series of numbers on it, like .7333 thats the ratio. Pretty sure the list is in the PIM. different gears get different adapters with different ratios. The adapters are even different (appearance wise) between auto and manual
I would have expected a non a/c car to have 3.42 gears (granted you could option almost anything). could the rear have been swapped? that would explain the adapter on the trans if it was originally a 3.42 geared car. and the lack of the posi tag.

Here is one I pulled form an OW transmission. After looking them up the 3.42 and 3.91 automatic had the same adapter. The driven gear would be different. Looks like it would likely be .8653.

Looks like you are going the same route I did. Hopefully you will find someone local like I did for the body and 80% of the parts. I had $21,000 into mine and had lowered the price down to $12,500 before parting it out. When everything was said and done I got rid of everything for $18,500. Hopefully you get at least 10K back on the parts

I know the feeling... I have owned a 68 442, 2 you 442 hard tops, 1 convertible, and the 83 and 84 H/O's. I hated to part mine out but with 5 bad discs in my neck I knew I would never finish it. So instead I went with this. It isn't American Muscle but it sure is a hell of a lot of fun to drive - it's an 06 330CI with the ZHP performance package. Later on down the road I might pick up another 442 when I am feeling up to it

It's all about numbers. you are a business man, If this was just a hobby for you i would look at it differently . I don't know what you have into it but there is a buyer for this car at a particular number. Parting this car out eats additionally into your profits "TIME". particullarly since parting and inventorying the parts Etc. is not your thing. Drop the price to where the market bares for this car in it's condition. Sell as a whole cut your losses or hopefully profits and be done with it. That's where the business man part comes in. I don't see parting this car will make you money unless you got it for free.
BTW if this was a blue interior car i would have already made a deal with you.
Do whatever you car to sell whole(Hopefully to someone who will restore it) i would hate to see it parted.
As i'm typing this i'm thinking. PM me your best number for this car whole.

I understand that at $6,500.00 the buyers are limited and while I've had a number of people agree to buy it at close to that price, no one has shown up with the $$$$$. I also understand the dynamic that at $1,000.00 price, it would probably sell immediately.
Just because something doesn't sell immediately doesn't mean it's not a value at the price offered. Some makes and models have fewer people following or wanting them and it takes a bit longer at times to find the right buyer.
I'm not complaining, just at the point where I'm ready to part it out in order to accomplish my financial objectives with it.
Since I already have it priced it would be customary to receive an offer from an interested party........so shoot me an offer.

I like white interiors especially. Black goes well with just about anything. Even today with the new modern cars we build, the white or red interior cars are a stand out as well as much cooler temp wise, during summer cruises.

Well it's a conditional parts for sale post as the car has to sell first. So I still consider it a car for sale post.

I don't know anything about gassers but this summer at a local show I saw a covair set up as a gasser w a BBB. The guy said he was recreating a car he saw n his youth, I thought it was pretty cool!

Somebody please buy this great 442 from Stefano! I would in a heartbeat if funds allowed. Even if a buyer can't get around to restoring it for whatever reason, just store it away for the future knowing you have done the right thing and won't lose money. I totally understand Stefano's position and support whatever he decides to do, I just see it as another example of a hurting economy, since we all know that this car would have been snapped up quick if times weren't as tough right now. 442's continue to be overlooked by the masses in favor of Chevelles & Mopars, but this is a great car when you consider the year and color combo, plus ram air! A 70 Chevelle SS in the same project car condition would probably bring 12-16k thus making this a bargain.

At the same time, I need a 70 442 glove box door. Like Johnd's 70, I bought parts to keep my 70 442 alive. Hopefully, I will be able to follow through with the dream of doing just that. Is this a parts for sale thread or not? Still waiting on a reply Stefano. I would like to purchase the glove box door, thanks, Adam.

Tru-Blue 442, I have an extra glove box door for you. Consider it a late Christmas present. It is even the correct green for your car and the correct 1970 Burlwood insert.
