From the story, it's sounds like it's cursed!

Cursed 442

Heart wrenching.
Reading the story ....yea seems cursed alright.
Kind of like living on the 13 floor.

Which ...
Reminds me of another sad tale about Rocky Ericson and Rock n Roll's only moonshine jug xxx player ever. Rocky was part of early 60's LSD experiments at UTA by you know who. Jerry Garcia was part of the same experiment program at UC. Rocky's story is heart-wrenching too. Worth a search to find out about that.

So is it worth saving? If so, how should it be restored?

Based on my costs for the last two cars restored, unless you have an idle paint and body shop you own, you would have AT LEAST 85k in restoring that car. Gauges, pedal assembly/clutch safety switch, steering column, carb (if it is the original one) and possibly the shifter hump/console/front buckets would be worth saving.

But it is a 4sp car! Somebody buy it and ship it up to me...I would restore it. Done worse...Too bad the paperwork got burnt.
