1955 Olds 98 Holiday 4 Door Hardtop (SOLD)

For sale/Tucson, AZ:

1955 Olds 98 Holiday 4 door hardtop. Original colors are Coral/Grey. Options are power steering, brakes, windows, seat, deluxe radio, courtesy lights, rear speaker, heater, tinted glass, and b/u lights.

The car has been sitting since 1982. I have gone through the fuel system, brake system, and rebuilt the distributor. The car runs very nice. No smoke/noises or issues. Transmission shifts well also.

I don't know much about the car's history (before 35 years ago) only that someone backed into it at the super market denting the front bumper, and passenger fender which were replaced. All front end chrome is (still) in excellent condition.

All the trim (not pictured) is in very nice condition. The car was painted white back in 1982. The interior is original and will need to be restored (chrome is in nice condition). The body is clean, straight, and rust free. The bottom has normal surface rust on suspension parts.

Title is free/clear, and notarized. If you are near Tucson, AZ, please come check it out.. The car is a strong driver which you can enjoy as is, or restore
$4500.00 OBO
Thank you,
Paul.

Last chance folks.. been looking to sell the car for a month. If nobody wants it (whole), I will dismantle it next week and put the parts on eBay.

I thought it would of gotten more than the $1,525 bid that was placed in Ebay when you put it up on there

It did do better the 2nd time... Last week it brought $2247. I tried hard to sell the car, but some peole think eBay controls value. My 59 fared a little better, but not much.

Maybe I am missing something?

What the market is telling you?

On the other hand, the Old Cars Price Guide, at least, agrees with your valuation of this car. According to this source, a '55 98 4-door that runs and drives but needs complete restoration is worth $5,600. You're asking only $4,500.

Those two ebay high bids notwithstanding, I think your issue is simply impatience. While these cars may command mid-four-figure prices when finally sold, it takes time to sell an old car that needs work, and one month is not a lot of time. The problem with using ebay as an indicator of value is that an auction if a fast event (7 days, usually). If the right person doesn't come along during that time window, the car doesn't sell or doesn't get what you want. But put it up for auction a month later, and the result might be different. You saw an example of this yourself with two high bids differing by about $700.

If time is an issue for you, and you have to get rid of the car, you have to do what you have to do. But if you have the time, you might continue to advertise it. If after, say, 6 months, the car still hasn't sold, you might consider some options. If it's been getting some interest but no one has closed the deal, you might want to drop the price a bit. If interest has been zero or close that, it might be time to throw in the towel and part it out.

That car should bring $4,500 all day long. It would be a shame to part the car out. I think the problem is there are just not enough people wanting to fool with these old cars.

Point taken. I was willing to negotiate from the beginning (I do on everything I sell)..

Most of us on this site are reasonable. The car has generated some interest, but no real offers. In the past I have only parted cars that needed to be parted.

This car could be saved, but after a month I feel the car may have developed a stigma. I don't know..
