Late 20's REO Rescue Truck!!
As I was out looking for a photo shoot location in the Chesapeake/Norfolk area of VA, this little gem caught my eye. Sitting in the yard of a local business the owner passed away three months ago and his wife is selling this truck. She doesn't know what to ask for it but she asked me to advertise it for her in exchange for letting me use it for a photo shoot.
After a little research, it appears to be a 1929. The motor once ran as of 5 years ago, however it has not moved from this spot in nearly 4 years. She couldn't find the key at the shop, so she will have to locate it.
This thing has so much potential... I wish I could bring it home and resurrect it myself!!!!!
The woman's name is Ciara Figuieredo with the Blue Ridge Tank Cleaning Services in Chesapeake, VA. You can contact her direct at 1-757-636-6684 to negotiate price and removal. As you can see it's in a large lot so removal on a flat bed will be easy.
Hope this one finds a good home and NOT off to the scrap yard (as in where its headed if no one buys it)

You should haul that back to SC, John. Make a good and unique parts hauler.
I think it's much later than a '29, probably 49-54 vintage. It would be a great project. If the REOTM had the resources it would be great display for them.
AACA Museum had a 1955 Chevrolet Bookmobile donated a few years back. It came from Anderson County, SC. I need to check progress on it. It's in the middle of a frame-off.

John, nice to see you posting again! I think that van is closer to the mid 50's. I think the production started around then for this design? Anyway it's a REO Gold Comet (the flashes on the front sides of the hood should say "Gold Comet" and the engine exhaust manifolds should too). The Gold Comet in 1955 had a 100,000 mile warranty!!
Pic of 1955
I went back and looked at a LOT of these vehicles and finally realized why the one you posted looks a bit different on the front. It's missing the chrome horizontal bars across the lower grill.

thanks... been too busy to even turn a wrench.
If you look close, you can see where they WERE on this truck.

Thanks for clarifying though.. this would be an awesome rig for someone.. I'd not even complain if they put in a modern turbo diesel to make her purr...

C'mon, you know I'm never sarcastic.
But, actually, I did mean "sorry," as in, "sorry to sound rude and contradict you."
And actually, I'd love to have that truck, but somehow I don't think it's in the cards this year...

I'm playing the Powerball this weekend. That is one cool truck, but would look cooler sitting in my driveway.
Of course it needs a total resto
And if it was to be mine, it's going back to 100% stock. OK 99% stock, Needs dual exhaust with flowmasters or turbo mufflers

Well, maybe, but just remember that it's probably powered by a Continental straight-6 with either 255cid and 107HP or 292cid and 124HP.
It MAY have the 331cid, 140HP straight-6, but that was for the really heavy trucks.

Tell yer Boy Scout the REO can be his first vehicle. That way he gets a project and you get a cool parts hauler. Good pic BTW.
Eh, wait. Turning a teenage boy loose with that much room in the back might be a dangerous proposition.
Though it sounds like it may soon be on the way to Indianapolis!
Wonder how hard that missing trim is to find?

Nawww, take a bunch of tools, some MMO, regular oil, brake fluid etc and git r running. Drive it back. Bet it will fire and run. You've hotwired cars before I'm sure.... Might need to get some tires (or tars as they say in VA)

I agree - so long as it's not seized, these things were hard to kill.
Change the points, condenser, and plug wires and clean out the carb, and she'll probably fire and run just fine from a 5-gallon gas jug in the passenger footwell.

EDIT: OK, now I see that Eric beat me to this. I guess I wasn't paying attention...
Better brush up on your research skills, John. After about five minutes with Google Images, it's clear that this is an early 1950s REO. Here's a 1954 Civil Defense rescue truck. I've found a bunch of other images that all have the same grille and front end ranging from 1952-54. I believe the model is F-20. There's one with a BBC that sold for $33,600.
