Exclamation 1964 Oldsmobile 442

1964 442 ultra rare 1 of 1,842 2dr hardtops. 330 olds v-8 310 hp, 4spd 3.91 posi rear. almost everything new or rebuilt. above average amatuer restoration. needs very little to be perfect. seats could use covers, bumpers could be rechromed, but driving and having fun right now. other projects force sale. car is super solid. black on black

It would be nice if the photo of the body cowl tag were actually in focus. Nice car, though.

Buckets seats are from something else. They look like Pontiac. too bad on the hood.

Note that the "ultra rare" 2dr hardtop was the most common body style for the 1964 442s (1842 out of 2999 is more than 50%).

Where to start???

Hood, seats, aftermarket wheels, aftermarket shifter (which calls into question the whole authenticity of the car), aftermarket valve covers, aftermarket radio...

Wait - the oil fill tube tells me it's a 1968-up motor. The 1966 air cleaner tells me that the carb is NOT a correct 4GC. The 1966-later carbs have a 5.25" air horn - the early air cleaners won't fit.

While the price is not crazy for a clone, the authenticity is questionable.

Considering the $12500 asking price, while I agree it's pedigree representation may be in question, just the cost is quite reasonable for a fun play toy.

Well it has to be a 442 because it has the additional dash emblem...Right? ha ha No 64's had 442 on the dash, wrong shifter, lacking the hens teeth wheelwell trim. For sure the pdigree has to be questioned with this one.

sixtyfour, how many 64 442's have you had? I thought you bought yours from the original owner in 69 or did you have another one before that one?

I bought it in 1969 with about 1000 miles from a guy who's son had bought it new from Snowberger in Hagerstown just before going to Vietnam........... his son never made it back. the car sat until his dad had the heart to sell it

It still only has 67K on it

Thanks, that is the story I remember from surfing this forum back in 2007/2008, can't remember which year for sure, but I do remember wanting a 64 442 at that time and considered yours when you offered it for sale. Glad to see you never followed through on that sale. So, having an original car, I always try to pin down the details. Need you to look at the rear end on this one. What gear ratio is stamped on the passenger axle carrier and what is the manufacturer stamp? Usually P. Does your car have power brakes, and/or power steering? Have you checked your car for a build sheet? Thanks
