1972 Cutlass

I just picked this one up today. It is amazingly complete and original. The previous owner did get it running before he gave up on it. It has a new battery, new battery cables, alternator, and some other small stuff. I drove it around the neighborhood before I drove it up onto the trailer

The good stuff is:

Amazingly complete
Solid doors, floors, trunk (minor rust in the lower rear quarters)
A/C Car
Bucket seats
Great looking dash
Bullet mirrors
Louvered hood
Disc Brakes

The bad stuff is:

It is a very common car and not worth much
Two-barrel intake
non-posi rearend
The center console is damaged (it can be repaired)
Rust along the driver’s side rear sail panel will need to be cut out.

Like most of the cars I buy, I am attempting to sell it whole before taking it apart. It is a very restorable car and would be a shame to part out. Unfortunately, it is worth more as a parts car than complete. I am looking using the mirrors and the doors if I do part it out.

$3500.00

Thanks

Tom

I tore into the car yesterday in order to see just exactly what I have. Again, it's nothing special, but I am amazed at the condition of the frame, floor pans, quarters, etc. The roof is the major issue with some heavy pitting on the driver's side sail panel. The top is in decent shape requiring a media blast or wire wheel. The hood and trunk are decent, easy to prep, the doors are really nice. I can't see anything on the lower fenders yet. I will need to pull the lower trim off of the car to inspect it.

Here are a few more pictures

I am posting it locally on craigslist for $3800.00. I am willing to go down to $3500.00. Unfortunately, it is worth more to me as a donor car.

Should it not sell within a couple of weeks I will move it over to the parts for sale catagory and start parting it out. I really only wanted it for the sport mirrors, but I will probably keep the doors as well. They are much nicer than what is currently on my 442.

I'm still collecting parts for my 442, LOL

Nice looking car with nice colors. Any pics of the bad sail panel? How do these cars get so much surface rust down there in AL? Sunburn the moisture, or salt air or what? Just curious since several of your parts cars have had this condition.

Good question.
We still have a lot of rust down here. Just not as much as you guys up North.
We don't use salt on the roads down here since we don't have too much in the way of snow.

This particular car's history: It's a southern car from the Birmingham area. The sun down here is hard on our cars, very hard, and yet we still have plenty of rain and humidity. The damage I normally encounter comes from water retention as a result of the vinly top, leaks around windows into the carpeted interior and trunk. Lower fenders tend to hold leaves and dirt and as a result, they tend to stay moist as well. Cars found under shelters tend to do well. There isn't as much moisture coming up from the ground here as I've seen elsewhere.

Our frames tend to do well down here.

It's raining today so I'll post the rust damage tomorrow, after it dries up.

Thanks for the question

Very restorable car....that rear floor pan looks new!
A reasonable price and a good project for someone...
Good luck with the sale.

Rust issues

These are the three areas that will require patch panels.

Sammy, Thanks for the input.
I was very surprised by the floors. The rear floors look factory new. The front will require a wire wheel and fresh paint.

Right now I am not getting any reasonable offers so I am willing to start parting her out. I took the mirrors off already and I will replace the doors with two I have in the garage sometime this week. I'll be using these doors on my 442.

I placed an ad in the parts for sale section.

Thanks

I just spent some real time in the truck of this car and it is painfully obvious the driver's rear quarter panel has been replaced. So have the front and rear windows.
