Great looking car! I've only seen pictures, but the restoration appears to be REAL GOOD!!! Just out of curiosity, what is the "magic number"?

wow looks fantastic, I should come over just to see how nice the car is in person.

The springs must be new as well, look how even the car sits and it looks perfect. - I like a little rake myself but man this car looks brand new

I might be wrong, but I thought the originals were correctly described as Pace Car Replicas. I don't think this is a replica as in clone or tribute.

It's an Original Y74 code built by Oldsmobile as a Pace Car Replica.

The non replica(s) / actual Pace Car(s) were built for the track.

To avoid the unwanted confusion that will ensue, I suggest every time you show "Pace Car Replica", you state it as "Original Y74 Pace Car Replica".

correct me if I am wrong...but was there only 2 real "Pace cars" (with the flag holders in the back) to lead the indy cars around the track?? then there were like 33 (maybe more) Y74 code cars to parade around the track hauling the princesses and other dignitaries ....these were drove around the city all month too by select people who were connected with GM or the city of Indianapolis.....actually my high school buddy's dad had one for the month and he let my friend have it one Saturday night..boy did we think we were "cool" being 17 and in a "PACE CAR" crusin the root beer stand !!! haha anyway I even think there were cutlasses with the same paint scheme and decals for sale at dealerships after the race... does anyone know more about the number of cars built like these

According to the 2 lists that I have. Total of 120 cars for the event.

Counting the list three times, breakdown as followed:
45 442's all drop tops
61 Cutlass supremes all drop tops
14 Vista cruisers
The lists has three pool cars. (not assigned) + 1 display

The 2 actual pace cars, don't have the Y74 on the cowl tags, built before the Y74 code was thought of or stamped.

There were more Y74's made after these cars were made. IIRC festival cars were made before April? But this is just going by what I have seen by reading cowl tags of cars verified through the VIN's. Which has been only hand full.

Is it correct that the actual '70 pace cars had the W-30 intake manifold and the standard 442 stick cam in them?

My old man dated a girl whose dad was on the steering committee. So he got a 72 HO convertible pace car (the ones that hauled the dignitaries, not the two track cars) for a weekend. He was impressed with how fast it would go, how fast it would burn the tires, and how fast it would burn the gasoline.

I've felt this way for years. I think it's time the hobby as a whole drops the word "Replica" from the Pace Car description entirely. The word "Replica" in our hobby today means "Fake", "Clone", or "Tribute" (or whatever word they replaced it with this week because the new word they chose to use last week now has the same negative vibe that the one before it had). "Original Y74 Pace Car Replica" gets too confusing, because it could also mean that it's a "clone" or "tribute" of an original Y74 car.

You have hijacked two posts now! If you have not read completely through both post, the only way to tell it is by the Y-74 in the lower RH corner of the cowl tag. Or by provenance. Also unscrupulous people can have the cowl tag repoped. So you need to educate yourself on what a non tampered with i.e. rivets holding them to the cowl.

Also the two track cars don't have the Y-74 on the tag which is only verifiable through the VIN.
