I've looked at this car on Craigslist a couple times and I am very intrigued. The price seems really low, though. I'm wondering if the rust on this is so bad that it has driven the price this low.

Price is probably pretty low because it's 4-door and it's only a V6 (if his "Rocket" 250(??) claim is correct).

4 door sedans don't command top $$. This one is a CS Holiday sedan (no B pillar, and windows are not enclosed). And it's got Looks like there is rust under the vinyl. Sad to say but I think it has more value as a parts car.

Speaking of more doors, this has been for sale around my neck of the woods the past couple of years. Fully loaded car plus a supreme to boot. Looking at the pics, worth every penny if the pictures are not lying. $6500.00

Ya know, I don't recall seeing a 6-cylinder Olds motor pre-1985. It's a straight 6? My bad....I assumed it was a V6.

I've seen a couple '71 Cutlass with a Chevy straight 6 in them. Battery tray was on passenger side & driver side was in perfect condition. One of the cars is still in a yard that I know of. Not sure of c.i.d, but I think Chevy did make a 230 & 250?

The only six cylinder engines that Olds made after the 1940s was the V6 diesel (and the "Shortstar" used in the Intrigue if you want to count that). Olds used the 225 cu in Buick V6 in the 1964-65 F-85s, then the Chevy I6 (230 cu in for 66-67 and 250 cu in for 68-up) until the 1975 model year. Note that for some reason, there was no six cylinder offered in the 1972 model year, but it came back in 73. After GM brought back the Buick V6 in the mid-1970s, Olds went back to that motor, but continued with the I6 in the Omega. Of course, by the 1980s, the 60 degree V6 was also used in some models.

Very possible. The rest of his ad is well written without errors though. Chances are he just may not know the CID. I guess this is one of the reasons to proof read an ad critically before submitting it. I don't know if CL allows the ads to be changed once they're submitted.

Joe my uncle had a 60something GMC 4x4 with one of those Buick v-6 motors in it from the factory. He used it for a plow truck till the early 90's when it rusted to death.

Supposedly, Oldsmobile dropped the six cylinder for the '72 model year due to the extremely low past production numbers, and finding that the standard 350 engine was getting the same fuel mileage as the six cylinder.
