1972 Olds Cutlass (bucket Seat/Console)

This is a barn find. Found in Georgia, this car is unmolested and an excellent candidate for restoration.

Rocket 350 with the original carb, air breather, and heat riser.
Starts easily and engine runs real smooth and silent.

Solid car with great fenders, excellent doors, excellent floorboard, great drivers rear quarter, surface rust where the paint burned off in the hot southern sun on the passenger quarter panel and trunk lid. No pitting.

Bucket seat, center console car, all the interior lights work, console is in excellent condition, seat frames are in excellent condition, will require new foam and seat covers. No cracks in the dash. Dash glove box door is broken as is the chrome strip that goes around the dash. Dash clock and original radio, both not functioning.

A/C is missing/Goes in reverse but does not go forward/soft spots in the trunk floor near the center and drivers side. Easy to repair. One small area of rust, rear window, bottom, passenger side. Normal issue with vinyl top cars, this one isn't even close to being as bad as what is normally seen.

$3700.00

Man, I love Viking Blue '72 Supremes. I'm probably not in a position to add another one to the fleet right now, but I'll ask a few of the important questions....

Found in Georgia but where is it located now?

K or M engine code in the VIN (before the '2' in the middle)?

26 A (white vinyl top) on the cowl tag and an A51 for buckets?

Rallye Pack tach, clock or dummy plate in the right gauge pod?

Does it have the HD rear suspension with boxed arms and sway bar?

AM or AM/FM?

Any rot under the stainless rocker trim?

Any original paperwork?

If you have them, please send more pics of the good and bad spots to Vette442 at hotmail.com.

Thanks.

it is a K code, Please explain the significance of this.

The vin was run by the police and is good. I have the documentation for that. No other documents, sorry. The car can be registered and titled. Your local police will inspect the car during the process. I can register it here in Alabama with no issues and sell it afterwards. Just add the cost of tax and registration fees.

Dash clock and AM/FM radio, both not working. But they look nice.

Body data plate info 977 A51 26A I'll see if I can get a photo

Rot on the bottom inch of both fenders and a hole near the bottom passenger side of the rear window. No rot in the floors / trunk has issues which will require some welding. Quarters and wheel wells look great.

Yeah, tell me about it. They look nice but they cause these classics to suffer if they're left outside.

I found a small area in the passenger rear quarter that will require attention.

The bottom of the doors and the body rockers are great!

Looks to be a pretty solid project car for the money - great color combo.

That being said, using my experiences as someone who has previously bought project cars sight unseen on Ebay and elsewhere online, I'd suggest that you post a few more of your detailed pics to your Ebay auction to avoid potential issues. If I was told it had "excellent doors" as described and the car arrived with that big dent in the driver's side door that you can't see in the main picture of the car, I'd be a little distressed.

Good luck with the sale - hope it gets a good home.

Terry

I would guess that once the trim and everything else is removed that there is alot more rust than is showing. Lower cowl and under the windshield trim would be my first guess. Along with the usual back window problems. Still a solid looking project for someone.

I thought the same thing. But I am not finding it. I might pull the lower trim off this weekend to double check, but I posted a picture of both below the rocker trim and bottom of the door. Both are surprisingly rust free. The issues are the lower front fenders where the bolt to the car and the passenger rear quarter.

I found the types of rust you are referring to on the previous Cutlass I had. Bottom three inches of both fenders, inside the doors with rust coming through on the door bottoms, rust under the windows, both front a rear. Here are a few pics of my previous Cutlass.

Everyone I've talked to agrees, this car shouldn't be parted out. But I just bought another car and many of the parts on this car could come in real useful on the car I just bought. I am going to give it two more weeks and then I am going to part it out.

Price lowered to $3500.00 as she sits now.

I can go lower if the buyer is willing to let me keep the Quadrajet/air breather/fan shroud/radiator top bracket/flywheel cover plate

I can even go lower than that if I can keep the front disc brake set up, replacing them with drums so the car will still roll and stop.

Price now, $2900.00

I pulled the air breather, and a couple other parts. I am pulling the Disc brakes this weekend and replacing them with the drums. I have not removed anything from the interior and the engine runs great.

Thanks
