I don't know why this car won't sell. It's been for sale for a long time. Looks nice, 4speed, decent price. Hm.

Probably got wrecked years ago, and the rework wasn't up to par. If this car wasn't more than an hour from me I'd go look at it.

seems to me the roof paint seems to match the hood and fenders, but everything from the fenders back don't seem to be right. there is even a small ding on the upper portion of the left fender.

the drivers seat is torn up a bit, is that an origional steering wheel?

very nice looking though

It looks to me like original paint from the windshield back, and the front clip was painted fairly recently. It also looks like there's some rust at the bottom of the fender, though it could be just a little dirt or tar.

That is an Olds sport steering wheel, original to the car who knows, but an original piece.

The seat being ripped up just means there was a lot of seat time in the car. Must be a good one to drive.

For 14K I'd say it's a decent car, just from what we can see.

I looked at it a while back (when the price was higher) and it needs patch panels in the lower rear quarters and fenders - rusted through. I remember the inside door panels being good. I think it needed seat covers (front and rear), a headliner... I can't remember the dash, but I thought the dash was good. Engine runs well, and it's a wide ratio transmission.

So what do you think a good price is, and is the car worth putting the money into it to fix all the issues, not meaning restoration just fixing the problems.

Did you drive it? Does it run okay?

It needs a total restoration. You can buy a completely restored car with an OAI hood for less than $20K. Why would you pay more than $5k- $7k for this one.

No 4 speed OAI hardtops have sold recently that are anything except high end restorations. Restored OAI Automatics are currently selling for under $20K (I know of at least one member here that just bought one). The swap is less than $3k. Nothing has sold recently even remotely close in comparison to this car for anywhere near $14k. An amateur restoration of this car is going to run $12k at a minimum. My point is this car is way overpriced

Ally - I was being facetious. You compared current prices to what this car is listed at, yet this is a 4 spd.

With none or few 4 spd comps to go by, one can't really say this car is a 5-7 K car. Were it an AT car, then I'd have agreed with you.

I have a hard time believing a 4speed would make this car double in price, but I haven't been following sales so what do I know.

I would like to know more about what makes these cars valuable and whatnot. I'm sort of thinking about going to look at this car. I'm going to be researching for the next little while.

At the time his price was $18K. I didn't drive it, but the owner took me for a ride - as I had decided I wasn't interested due to a fairly strong price for a car that needed quite a bit of work.

It runs strong, and he said the engine had never been apart. Drivetrain appeared to be the strongest suit of the car. I'm not sure what a good price would be, but it's getting closer in my opinion. Let me see if I can post some pics up...

Hope these help those that asked, and these are really of the worst spots. For those that look at the car, double check the frame rails. I'm sure they're solid, but the scaling also scared me off.

Those are some good pictures. Did he say if the car is a local car? My Cutlass drove thirty years through northern winters then came here and sits in the humid south and the frame is still solid as a rock.

Thanks Steedaq, I'll probably look at these pictures 500 times.

Depending on where you are located and what you are used to seeing, this is a very solid car and a good driving project. I have not seen a numbers matching 4 speed car sell for $6-8K. Not saying its worth $14K, but I don't think it could be bought for $6-8K. Just my $.02.

i dont know i think its too much ,you look at what you could buy for 20 k and then think what this car would look like after you throw 6 grand at it and i think you come up short

Here's a restored one right here on Classicolds that needs to be put back together for $14.9K. I realize it's not numbers matching but look at the money you'd save over doing a complete restoration

allyolds68,
I appreciate the free bump on my Sherwood Green Post , Just to update you my car is together and running! The pictures show what has been done. It only need minor detials to complete. Yes I have well above the price asking, over 9k in the motor with aluminum heads! If this was a number match car, I would want another 8-10k. The 4 speed cars and getting tough to find.

A paper work car always will bring a premium!

Thanks Again for the bump, OLDSDOCTOR

I agree with you, I bought a 70 #s match 4 speed with papers and non running and paid well over 10k. This car is neat but needs a lot of body work. Yet I feel mine was a steal!

Your car looks real good. I paid almost $6000 for my Cutlass S which I'm currently cloning in a W-31. I think that 442 would sell quick up North for $10K, maybe a little more. Just look at what the cars are bringing on ebay. Don't really know if money is changing hands, but the prices sure are high.

The OldsDoctor's car is also a good buy. I almost have what he's asking for his car in my clone automatic car. I wish I could start all over again.
