For Sale: 1961 Olds 98

Am offering my 61 98 Holiday Sedan on Ebay this week; check it out. Is the white and twilight mist sedan, 33K original miles, is a really good car. Hoping it will go to an Olds Club/Olds Forum member. Contact me for more info; the Ebay auction offers full, honest description. Thanks. Alan. Cell 516-316-2048. If this car is sold I will be on the market for a 1963 Olds 98...if you have one for sale or know of one, let me know!

Hey, that is a pretty nice car. If you are interested, I have a 1964 Olds 98 that I would be willing to part with. PM me if you want more info.

That '61 is a VERY interesting car. Anyone who knows anything about '61 Oldses knows that that car shouldn't wear two-tone paint. Due to lack of a clean body line or a chrome molding, two-tone paint was not supposed to be offered on the Holiday Sedan or Town Sedan (or the convertible, for obvious reasons). Two-tone paint was only supposed to be available on the Holiday Coupe and Sport Sedan in the 98 line (at least that's what my color recommendation chart says). Yet, here this car is in all it's resplendent glory, with the Protect-o-plate to match, proving that it really did come through with two-tone paint. Then again, this is obviously an early car, as delivered before Christmas, and my chart includes the Starfire, which means it is a later printing, so it's possible that two-tone paint was available at the immediate start of production and then discontinued, due to the logistics of the paint process. I tried to convince myself that someone painted the roof, but there's no arguing with that CBBC on the Protect-o-plate. My '61 Holiday Sedan was Twilight Mist with a white stripe. It's going on 20 years ago, but I'm pretty sure my data plate showed BCBC, which was for a Twilight Mist body, Provincial White stripe, Twilight Mist roof and Provincial White wheels (mine originally wore poverty caps and trim rings).

Flipped paint scheme...

Hi Paul, wow very interesting that we both have had this same car with nearly the same color combination - especially considering what you found in the original color chart. I have a chart as well but is boxed up (we moved recently), but I do remember looking at it and I believe mine said the same thing - no accent color roof recommended on the Holiday Sedan. The reason must be that there is no molding to create a break; the split between the colors was simply a masked line...and mine shows that; it's nicely done, but is a little odd with no molding.

Truth be told, the colors are what attracted me to the car in the first place. I thought it was really different and striking; the contrast makes the white paint 'pop.'

Thanks for your response and the info!

All best,
Alan

PS: I posted a short video of the car w/an Elvis tune from '62. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvadPRKkOUI

Hi Alan

Found this on the local Craigslist, it's an 88 not a 98 but still a real pretty car!
