How much is this olds worth?

My friend has what i have been told is a 69.5 cutlass S holiday coupe, 455, posi rear. Wants to sell it because he cant find the trim for it, and wants to see someone who loves oldsmobiles treat it right (me) doesnt know how much to sell if for, i dont know how much to offer. its had some work done to it, runs and drives, has some dings, one of the fenders still needs to be straightened. biggest thing is the interior is pretty much shot, and has bucket seats out of a completely random vehicle in it. but not a lot of rust i guess. what do you guys think? thankyou!!!

Offer him $2000.

I determined that amount by using the WAG therom.

The body is the most expensive thing to do...how is the frame? The quarters? If the frame and floors/trunk are good with no holes I would go 1500. It will probably cost you another ten to make it look half decent and cover any mechanical deficiencies.

Making these things looking half decent costs coin even if you do it yourself and with the economy the way it is cars are not going for what they used to. Couldnt even get 20,000 for my 65 which is a low mile original hi option car...It would cost much more than that to fix up a rough car.

What do you guys think? apparantly the original 455 spun a bearing and they built another one and stuck it in, but put small block heads on it? i know the big blocks have the small tooth poking out next the block casting number, this one doesnt, so im thinkin its a small block, the old man is just stubborn lol. was a AC car, but its all been ripped out of the car, the headlights and bezels are in the storage unit i guess, rust around rear wheel wells, the only good part of the interior is the rear seat. im sure the original radio was cut out, theres a 3 guage cluster thats been installed over hte opening. what do you guys think its worth now? thanks guys.

That car is rough! Measure the width of the intake manifold to determine if it is a BB. It should be 11.5" for a BB and 9" for a SB. You can also get the casting numbers off of the block and post them to know for sure.

After seeing the pics I wouldn't give over $1000. The rust is cancerous. It has damage, and the interior is shot.

well i got underneath it, doesnt look too bad. it runs and drives, ill see if i can measure the intake. im sure its a small block already. but as a parts car/ possible daily driver what do you think its worth? it is a 2 door. 117,000 miles, but not original motor, so its not that big a deal lol. i dont know what to offer him, if i wave some money in his face, what do you guys think i should pay?

$500-$600.
Car is super rough, missing all kinds of stuff thats expensive to replace. Most valuable thing there is the motor if its a 455 and runs good- if its a 350, then even that isn't that special.

If he's your friend and truely wants to make you a deal, and have it go to someone who will mess with it, $500-$600 would be about right.

You could buy a MUCH nicer car than that for $1500-$2k.

just my $.02

Verify it is a 455. Then verify it has a posi.
Offer him $500. When the honeymoon is over and you realize it is a pos you can get your money back by selling the posi and 455.

Pretty funny that he told you he is selling it because he cant find the trim. Are you sure he's not playing you for a fool?

I paid $600 for a daily driver '69 3/4 Chevy pickup that was a lot nicer than that car. I would only offer about $300 for that car. As others have said, the drivetrain is probably worth more than the car as a whole. Good luck.

Sure, he can't find the trim because it fell off the car.

Seriously, The_Jeremiah, you've been given some pretty good advice here. Especially about it probably being worse than it looks.

You can also look at the head castings. IF they have a letter stamp (ie. C, E, J, G, Ga...) then it is a 455. If it has a letter and a number (ie. 8A, 7A, 6A...) then it is a small block.

No, the head doesn't identify the block. A "C" head could have come on 455, 2 different 400s, and 2 different 425s.
And any big block head will fit any big block block.

You are right. I guess I was just meaning that he could determine if it was a big block or a small block that way.

im pretty sure its a small block, when i go take another look at it ill make sure. its got 5 heads on it, but he said he put them on the 455 he took out of another car for this one. he wouldnt intentionally lie to me lol, at worst, someone told him it was a 455 and he bought it. if its not that is. Ill go talk to him today and see what kind of a deal he wants to work out, and check out that engine. if its a posi rear, its goin under my 4 door, and ill put the pegleg rear underneath the supreme, and use it as a daily driver XD i actually hope its a 350, because im building that 455 for my 4 door which means i have another good set of 5 heads, a performer RPM intake and headers all for the 350 that could go on this car for the price of gaskets. if not, up for sale.

Well like you've been saying if you are thinking restore restore race race than that car is going to take tons and tons of money to fix up but if it runs and drives than it is an excellent beater. Of course you want to see how low you can get without offending him since he's your friend but since it's so beat up you don't have to worry about driving in the rain or snow or bad roads or anything, but you still get that cutlass feel. If it is drivable I would probably go toward the high of these estimates.
