70 442 Auto, buckets, AC, project California car

After a crazy week of traveling due to a death in our family, I finally got to go pick up the 70 442 I purchased from Mitch in Northern California. At first I was going to make this a parts car. On the way home I got to thinking I have most of what is missing on this car and it appears to be a numbers correct/matching Engine car. The build sheet is with it and it is a fairly good optioned car. Orginally bucket seat floor shift auto, gold with black top, AC, PS, PDB, Rear defogger a It was a tilt wheel car but the column was gone. I will clean it up the next few days and get a good look. It needs a total restoration. Body is pretty good needs, floors and trunk floor but not really bad. Fenders are 71-2 style but good. Open rearend, will get it cleaned up and take some pictures. I will get the parts that are missing on it and then get some pictures posted. Might take to the Portland swap meet in two weeks.

$3995

I will post more info as I get it.

So far:

Correct Numbers match block and heads even though painted Chevy Orange
Trans is 70 OG code so correct

Rearend not so much it is a 12 bolt Type O but is not correct is a 3:08 But at least the right kind.

Floor braces good, trunk drop offs good but lower quarter skins need patches. trunk floor has a few weak spots as does the interior floor but the braces are good.

Boxed lower control arms are there but sway bar missing. Correct rear bumper, correct tip on exhaust on one side. Clearly needs a full restoration. But a numbers correct engine and trans. That is very hard to come by now.

Will post more soon.

Here is a few pictures of the drivetrain. Getting it all checked out and ready to take to the Swap meet in Portland next week.

Has a small section of floor that has rust on the passenger side where the front passenger feet go, a small hole in the trunk floor about a quarter size and another small hole at the back of the trunk also a small section. both quarters have some minor outer skin only rust but not the drop offs or inner fenders, doors good rockers good, fenders a little minor rust, hood good,

Heads E
Intake 404521
Trans 70 OG 6462
Rearend SC 3:08 type O 12 bolt should be a type O SE 3:23 at least correct type not correct ratio

Will post more pictures next few days as we get it out of the shop where it can be seen,

3.08 was RPO G90, available on the base 442 with TH400 and was actually the standard ratio with the 3 spd manual trans.

You are correct Joe, However, I found the build sheet on this car and it had a 3:23 as it was "Born With" Plus as your information points out a 442 with Auto and AC had 3:23 standard. I bet it still performs fine. This one has not run in some time and will need to be completely rebuilt.

At least it is still a Type O

Thanks for that info

Ah, I missed the part about the build sheet. I assume it's a Fremont car? Was the build sheet on top of the gas tank?

Yes to both.

Fremont and on top of the tank.

By the build sheet it had a tilt column as well. But, someone pulled that. They cut out the intermediate shaft with a torch. I guess taking one bolt out was too hard for someone

I bet the right rear brake doesn't work all that well with the crimp on that brake line. Cool find.

My condolences for the loss in your family.

It is a cool find. If it was a 4 speed car I would sell my other 70 we are going to restore. Yea it needs a full restoration. no brakes, at all there is a line missing up front by the junction block. It is a barn find and does not run or drive. But is a great candidate for a restoration. I will post pictures tomorrow of the entire car.

We would really like to move this car in the next few weeks. Or at least sell it. We have a trip planned and would rather have it done before.

Might be able to deliver if not too far and is paid for.

Best offer over $3500 will own it

Give me a call

west coast time 8 am to 8 pm 541-815-4363

Thanks

That's great to hear Larry, what's the new owner's plan for her? I hope he/she puts the time in to make her road worthy again rather than looking to part her out.

Thanks takes about $1100 to have one shipped. Still way less than an east coast car that is rusty

That depends. I've spent $900 last year to ship a 1985 D88 from Las Vegas to Northern VA, and it cost me $1800 to ship my non-running 64 Vista from Reno to NoVA.

Do they actually own trucks or are they just a broker. I've had REALLY bad luck with these slimy brokers. I've shipped four cars cross country in the last six years.

They are a broker. With that said I have sold over 20 Oldsmobiles that have shipped all over this country and they are by far the best. I have had owner/drivers treat cars and customers like crap. Robyn at Monarch has been awesome with never an issues. I do understand what you are saying but she is the exception by far.
