Boy do they hose you on the "back fees" too
I had occasion to store my car one year in CA while living there.
Go to register it next year, oh you gotta pay for last year too!
What, why?
'Cause you failed to fill out a "certificate of non-operation" avowing that you were not using the roads during that time.
Having never heard of a CONO, surprisingly, that level of idiocy never occurred to me, nor are they about to tell you when you need to know.

its like that here in iowa.my b day is in sept.and here i have til the last day of the next month to renew my tags.which works great because most of my cars i put in storage for winter and don't drive so i "store" it i have to turn in the plates and registration.when i go to get it out of storage in say april i have to pay a full years license to register it.so either way if you store it or keep plates on it they get their money.UNLESS you plan to not drive it for a year or more then when you go to register you only pay for the year your in.BUT if for some reason you let the plates lapse.if you let it set for 3 yrs you can reregister it without paying the back license.so in the end "the man gonna git yo money"
