1969 442 Fender light Cutouts

Hey guys, i am doing body work on my 442 and i took off both fenders. I noticed that both of my fenders have sloppy cutouts for the fender lights. I was just wondering if they were like this factory or only on reproduction fenders. thanks.

68-69 factory service replament fenders did not have hole for side maker lights. Because the lights on the Vista Cruiser was not located in the same spot as the rest of the 68-69 Olds A bodies.

Also have 5 nut plates to accept 68 or 69 hood hinge mounting.

Well that's interesting. I've had a nice '68-'69 fender hanging in the rafters for 25 yrs, w/ no hole for the marker lamp. Always wondered why it had no hole, because I hadn't seen another like it. Now I know.

I learn somethin' new every day.

Thanks!

Well, I too have become educated, because every time that I saw a "hole less" fender I assumed that it was a cheap repro where they did not bother to punch the side marker light hole.

This is the same idea as the replacement fenders for other model years. There were no piercings for the emblems. Mass production at its best. You have to drill and install barrel clips to match the emblems. The O L D S M O B I L E lettering on the trunk decks of some Supremes may be another example of the same thing.

Feel fortunate nobody attempted to cut the hole in those.....I've seen some REAL shoddy/misplaced/torch cut holes in some of the replacement fenders.

Here's another tidbit. If these are service replacement fenders, they probably have all five nuts welded to the hood hinge holes so that you can bolt up both 68 and 69 hinges.

Sounds fair, I think we're all guilty of basking in the warm light of Joe's reflected glory at one time or another.

Anybody know how they made the marker light hole?
Was there a tool to punch it out or did they cut it out?
How about really fast with a cutting torch?
I would use a skilsaw with a carbide tipped blade, works on steel doors... sometimes.
