Hey everyone I need help with a car cover. I have a 72 cutlass, unfortunately I do not have a garage so I have to rely on covers. The problem I have is every cover I get disintegrates and leaves a really fine dust all over my cover that is difficult to get rid of. Does anyone else have this problem? Can anyone recommend a brand of cover that does not do this or literally rip apart after it gets wet a few times?

Avoid "Budge" brand no matter what. They are made from paper towel material.
I have heard good things about California Car Cover, which is what I will try next.

In going thru 2 car covers already, avoid the ebay brands. If you want my honest opinion, go with Cover King. If you have a Costco membership, type in car cover on costco.com. They only have one style thru Costco but it is amazing!! I live in So. Cal. so the sun will deteriorate anything, the $70 cover I had lasted 2-3 months and was split. The Cover king One fits my supremes lines like no other, the stitching is high quality and after a year it's in great shape. Also comes with a stainless rope and lock for keeping it tight. I can't say enough good about these guys. I think the one from costco.com was around $130-$140? It's a huge discount from cover kings sight for costco members. If you need a more heavy duty one they have them at coverking ranging from a $100+ to $600 the $130-40 one has worked great and keeps the car nice! Hope this helps and no I don't work for coverking I was just pissed at how much $ I spent on other covers before I found this one. Be weary of the lifetime warranty guys too, I went to return my $70 cover for warranty and they said no problem we'll switch it out but return shipping is $50, they wouldn't let me send it back UPS on my own!

I have been very satisfied with Covercraft. They are not cheap but they have a variety depending on your use (outdoor or indoor). I think California Car Cover is another good brand but I have not used one.

^^^ I agree with Glenn. I bought cover craft for my car and am very happy with it. My car is stored inside, but they have a varity of selections for outside storage too. Their covers are custom made for the car, and fits like a glove.

A California Car Cover has worked well for winter storage in the 1848 barn that my son uses. They offer many types of fabric to better suit individual conditions.


His only has to contend with dust, critter droppings, and a dusting of snow-the barn walls are by no means air tight!

Only thing I'd worry about if a car is being stored in a barn is vermin chewing it into pieces for their nesting.

Whatever you do don't buy one of the ebay brands. I recently bought a Covercraft Noah car cover for my 2002 Camaro Z28. I was very happy with the fit and quality plus the fact that it came with a 4 year warranty. Expect to pay around $200 for a top quality outdoor car cover.

I got the Ultimate Shield cover from Carcovers.com (about $170). In less than a year, it was no longer waterproof and the white powdery dust was terrible long before it lost its ability to keep water out. They've been responsive to my request for a replacement under warranty but I'm having 2nd thoughts. If the 1st fell apart.....

I purchased a large autoglym cover on sale at canadian tire here in Canada for $140.00 its going on 2 years now. So far so good. I had bought a cheaper simonize one for $90.00 and it only lasted 1 summer before it became dried out with powder all over the car. I would buy another autoglym cover myself. My 76 stays outside all summer long covered.

Just an idea, but get a cheapo cover to go over whatever you pick. Any cover used outdoors will get abused by dust, staining, UV rays etc. Let a $30 cover take the brunt of that and extend the life of your good cover and thus the car underneath.

Sounds like the makers of the budge covers. After a year, they tear like wet paper towels. After two years, they tear like wet toilet paper. After three years and a whole roll of duct tape, the wind scatters pieces all over. No need to actually uncover then.

LOL they make a great car cover. I've had mine for 12 years. Its the heavy outdoor water proof type so a little extra padding so you don't have to worry when brushing up against it in the garage.
I've heard good things about California car covers too.

x2 for cover king, IF you get the outdoor one make sure it has the fleece liner, if not there are rough edges/seams on the inside for some modles

The car cover I chose after doing some extensive searching was from Auto Chic (MPT Industries) which I paid $160. From what I understand, they are one of only three companies that actually make their own covers, and are not just putting a brand on something made overseas. I would highly recommend these covers, and you can check them out at http://www.autochic.com/covers.html. The person I worked with there was Michael Trueba, Jr. and he will walk you through what would be the best cover for your needs, and will make any custom adjustments for mirrors, antenna, length, etc.
