1963 394ci breather hose woes??

Cn anyone tell me whether I can do without the breathers on each rocker cover and switch them for earlier 1950's rockers with no breathers? I have a breather cap on the oil fill is that enough?

Also do 1950's rocket rocker covers fit my engine? The ones with the plug wire covers?

Any Olds valve cover from a 1959 - 1964 371 and 394 will fit. However the '59 and '60 covers have absolutely NO holes in them for the PCV. This is what I did - I have a '62 394 and bought rare Edelbrock valve covers for them which have no holes in them. I didnt want to drill into them and put a breather so I drilled a hole in the valley pan metal cover and adapted a down draft tube to it in the rear of the pan.

Yes it is. It's how the first California retrofits were done.

59-59-59 Don't suppose you've got any pics of your breather setup? Did you use some of the existing breather hose grommets and pipe work.

No, I dont have any pics of this set up and forgot to mention the valley pan was an aftermarket finned aluminum one they make brand new. I used a '59 road draft tube set up with minor bending and had to drill ( obviously ) 3 holes in the valley pan ( one for the tube and 2 for the mounting bolts ) and grind a couple fins down for this to work
