I don't think it would be a good idea, the Cutlass deserves an Olds engine.
and I don't know anything about chevy engines except they are orange.

I don't think it would be a good idea. Chevy engines need 4 bolt mains because the blocks are cast out of hardened toothpaste (you know, like the toothpaste on the edge of the sink in the evening). It isn't a good idea to use them. They usualy blow headgaskets at about 4:1 compression. The hi compression engines are 5:1.

Well, there is alot of advice here on how to build a hi performance 455 or 350. If you build an Olds engine you probably won't build a stroker. That is mostly a Chevy phenomenon. Why would you want to build a stroker when you can buy a 455 which already has a long stroke and makes more torque than you can shake a stick at? BTW, a Chevy TH 400 will NOT bolt up to an Oldsmobile engine.

The 400 tranny will work, but you'll need an adapter plate to hook it up to the motor. BPO have a differnet bolt pattern than Chevys
Get a good 350 or 455 (350, 395558 "2" block from 68 to 72 cast iron and soild mains, maybe somebody else can shead light on the best 455) and basicly a good cam, lifters, decent manifold, decent ign, good heads (stock 5 or 7a for small blocks and C for the big block) and a set of headers and you'll have a pretty decent streetalbe motor. Just be sure to get good cooling, and a deeper oil pan would be a good idea too!

No, I wouldn't say the dumb one. It is all relative, there is always someone, someplace that knows more than me, or you, or (fill in the blank). We just like our Oldsmobiles.

I've had both engines and liked the Olds better. Stump pulling torque opposed to needing to rev high to produce power. Small blocks are different though. I like my 71 LT1 Vette, it screams!

You are only the dumb one if you stick a cheby in your Olds. The car would never recover from the shame.

Yeah, I think it would be a bad case of automotive suicide. The car would probably just give up.

Use the 455 engine, mild cam, headers, Torker intake coupled with a Turbo 400 trans 12 bolt Olds with 3:42 gear and you will have a fast and reliable street machine with gobs of torque. Torque is what moves you out quick!
