maby buying a 455 marine

Hi

I was looking for a gm big block for my new project
today I saw a oldsmobile 455 marine hanging to a stand on the side of the road near my job, I called the guy and he wants 500$ for it
it looks in great shape!
I need to know if I can put a 4x4 tranny on this block! if yes...what model?
its to put in a crazy 1955 offroad willys project !

Marine 455s were just as strong as standard 455s. As far as putting a 455 on a 4x4 tranny, I don't know if you could do that easily. I assume Chevy made their early 4x4s with the TH 400 and a transfer case; however, the bell pattern would be different for a BOP tranny.

In the 80's GM made deisel trucks using Olds engines converted and most of them got changed to SBO 350s as they blew up. So I'm thinking that there maybe some trannys around. How many they would have built in 4X4 form I haven't got a clue but it maybe rare as I have never heard of any.
Good luck and let us know what you find as that is an interesting way to go.

All you need to do is take a BOP turbo 400 install the rear output shaft from a gm turbo 400 4x4 and bolt the adapter and transfer case from a gm turbo 400 as far as the early gm diesel ( converted from olds 350's) they were all 2 wheel drive's

Yeah, and all that takes is complete disassembly of the trans.

$500 isn't bad...I paid $700 for mine, which was freshly rebuilt with only about 20k miles on it and some high-performance parts on it, and three transmissions came with it.

But then again, I'm a master Acquisitions & Logistics expert.
