olds 98 questions
-as you might know, i'm rebuilding my 455. well i just added the Edelbrock performer intake and i realize that thing is way to tall to fit under the hood with the carb and air filter on top now. Does anyone make aftermarket hoods for the old 88 or 98's?? if not, is there any suggested hood scoop that you guys think might fit this body style.
-does anyone have any diagrams of where the vacuum lines are supposed to hook up to? pics? i labeled most but really wonder if theres any resources for this info? thanks, steve

If you think The hoods are the same on the 72 88 convertible and the 72 98 that you have,...... I have an extra hood we could modify
![]() ![]() ![]() I have had the hood from my 72 convertible leaning on a tree behind the garage for YEARS.

Since you will have to modify the hood to allow for clearance I would suggest using a cowl induction type hood scoop of a few inches, or the L88 style hood scoop. I have seen the L88 hood scoop done as a shaker hood scoop and it looks awsome. Then again, it might not look right on a 98.
You might also try to get a drop base air cleaner. That might allow it to clear your hood without any modification. |

I think the naval base is only about 40 miles from me if you want it.

thanks for the offer. if i mess this hood up beyond all recognition in the process, i might just need another one.
i've been looking on summit when i was at work today and think the reverse scoop/cowl induction would be the best. this thing is going to be outside a lot and i dont particularly want to leave the hood any more open than i have to yet it'd be nice to benefit from some added cooling or air while i'm at it. maybe i can rig something up, even is it is just cosmetic. i suppose get one of those scoops and bond it to the hood somehow. i was looking at the structure of the hood. i hope it wont warp the hood or cause it to bend from a lack of support when slammed shut or opened, after i cut away part of it to fit the intake. i suppose i could weld some other support in if that starts to happen. i'd really like to stay with a good closed stock intake. i dont want anything any more exposed than i have to or have to get the carb rebuilt too often. this whole car is only intended as a daily driver

Yeah a lot of those new scoop kits just use a special 3m double sided tape.
A big Ol' reverse cowl might need some rivets or welds though. You could always attempt a little edelbrock #1209
