Carb Help old 455, 71 cutlass, St. Louis, MO

Hello, I am in need for a major carb rebuild and performance upgrade\ tech help.

I have restored a 71 cutlass sx, 455, and everything seems to be running smoothly but I am not getting any power out of my carb. If I am driving down the road and step on the gas, to the floor, i get a little more speed\power, but when my foot hits the floor she bogs, and I mean bad, I can drop from 3000 rpm, to 2500 and lower, depending on how long I hold my foot to the floor. But If I let up, she gains power and were are doing 3800 rpm in seconds. Dont matter what gear I am in, if the throttle is on the floor, it just bogs.

I have adjusted timing, vacume advance, to get rid of pinging, and now this problem. Motor sounds great but when it comes to give it some power, nothing. bog bog bog.

I have also confirmed the fuel pressure is about 6-8 lbs.. Which according to a book, is about right.
As far as vaccume, I am not sure if all my vaccumes are working correctly and that may be the problem.

If any one is local around Arnold, MO and can reccommend some repair specialist, preferably one that knows Quadrajets, I can drive the car to you so you can see what I mean. Or if any one can reccommend a fix by the text above. I appreciate all the help.

Thanks!

Any cold start issues?
Mileage, and or last time since rebuild?
Does it dump fuel when you hit the loud pedal?

It's a Good carb, Just need to mess with it a bit.
If you do NOT have any cold start issues, I would say the secondary air valve adjustment has let go, or lost it's adjustment. This could be loose, or just plain gone at this point, needless to say that part is just a retaining screw and is easy to fix. Also make sure that the vacuum diaphram that holds back the secondary plate is still good. There will be a 3/4 vacuum line that runs to it from the main body of the carb on the pass side that you can pull and see if it will hold a vacuum upon activation.
That is where I would look first.

If there IS a cold start issue, Check accelerator pump for shot (you should have 2 solid jets of fuel squirting into the primary side when you hit the gas).
That should give you a start.
Do not know anyone who can help in your area, but I am thinking it does not even need a rebuild as of yet.

Danny (70Wcars here on the site) rebuilds those carburetors and does a good job for a fair price. That is, if you are sure it isn't a timing or advance issue. Are those to spec?
