Starting a 455 rebuild. I ordered a forged piston kit from summit but the pistons r on a 3 week back order, does anyone have any suggestions on where to get them faster without paying $600 from mondello? And if anyone has build ideas about how to get the most streetable power out of this thing I'm listening. I'm porting the heads, not sure about putting bigger valves, have a stock H.O. roller cam from a 307.

Have you looked at Jegs? They will usually price match. Plus, I've never heard anything bad about their customer service.

 

If your going to the trouble of higher compression pistons and having head work done then go the extra step of using the larger valves its worth it.

 

Do the big valves on the intake.

 

Hey; What letter heads are U using? IMO putting bigger valves in some heads with the 307 roller would yield little gain.

 

I agree, flatlanderracing is a good place to start. You may want to go to www.cnc-motorsports.com as well. They have the Probe pistons for $455.00. Much lighter than the Speed Pros. 307 cam? I know it's cheap but why bother, ain't much to it, especially for a 455.
I may have an Erson Hyd. Roller for sale if you're interested. Specs are 276/284 adv., 222/230 @ .050 on a 112, .512 lift with 1.6 rockers

 

Any competent machine shop can get you everything you will need, sell it to you at a "kit" price, and they pay the shipping.

I offered a particular site, you offered a blanket general statement that his favorite machine shop will be able to put together a "kit" in which they will pay the shipping? How do you know all of this? Have you talked to his favorite machine shop? Do you have this in writing? What backup do you have to substantiate your claims?

I'll pose it to you again, how will his favorite machine shop be able to get the pistons faster than Summit? I'm sure everyone will be awaiting your complete and utterly earth shattering answer.

Norm, did you even try to contact Jackson Auto Parts & Machine Shop? My bet is no, you just assumed and hoped it would validate your non-answer?
Well I did call them, spoke to Mark, they do not stock any SpeedPro/TRW Pistons for Olds, any Olds, they'll have to order them from a warehouse. Imagine that! They will put a "kit' together but guess who pays the shipping, the customer not them. Go figure! Call him for yourself, please.

So I will ask you again, Norm, how will his favorite machine shop, or in this case the one you picked for him, be able to get them faster than Summit? To quote the great John McEnroe, "answer the question"?

We are all waiting for your answer, or better yet non-answer, cuz that's better than no answer at all right?

Seth, you might want to try another outlet, and seeing as how Norm is grabbing at straws, I wouldn't believe him either.

There are other piston brands to consider. I used Keith Black 15cc dished pistions in my Olds and am very happy with the result

 

Did anyone say I did?

Is there any "shipping" involved if said parts are on "Will Call"?

Holy crap! I have been short on time lately so I haven't checked this. The bickering was good for a laugh anyway Thanks for all the info. I am thinking u guys r right about the 307 cam. My dad used one in a 403 so he degreed it and I compared it to others and its kinda low on numbers all the way around. and I will be porting the heads and welding up the center exhaust ports. I have to get new valves so might aswell go bigger right I have sent off for the summit kit with my budget in mind I just wish I could get the pistons sooner, but what can ya do? Who ever had the cam let me check the #'s on it, I'm going to be driving this thing on the street so I don't want anything to rad. Thanks again guys I will try to get back to those that r offering parts. Does anyone have stuff to convert a 78 regal to a 4 speed car?

 

Yes .030 over pistons. Its a std. bore so anything bigger than .010, GA heads, I found a set of aluminum roller rockers 1.6:1 for $50

 

have you tried Smitty or an Olds Specific shop yet.
