Well, I have discovered that my block is cracked and I need advice on 2 specific engines. I currently have the original 72 350, 7a heads, Edelbrock performer cam and Performer RPM intake, Holley 670 carb and headers. I can purchase: A) 69 350 with #5 heads or B) 76 455 w/400 trans from a Olds 98. 2 different sellers. Seller A wants $400 for the 350(on engine stand, but inspected by my engine guy) Seller B wants $350 for the 455/400 combo, engine is in car and will pull after I hear it run. Mydilema is: I have the new cam and intake I could use on the 350, from which I understand '69 was a good year. I could install and use all my good parts on my current engine or B: Get the 455/400 combo and sell all the aftermarket parts on my dead 350 except the carb which I could move over. I know I would have to get new headers, since current will not work. I ask because I heard the later 70's 455's were not so great with the J heads? Also, if the 455 is chosen, should I install the TH400 or keep the TH350? Looking for suggestions as I would like to move on one of these this week. Sorry it so long, but wanted to give as much info as possible...

It's your personal preference. I like the big blocks, but from what you described it will cost you less and be easier to stay with the 350. If you were content with the performance of the 350 that's what I'd do. If you'd like more power sell the 350 parts and upgrade to the 455. John
