455 engine i am looking to buy. need advice

i know a guy that bought all the stuff to build a 455 engine. he got this stuff around 15 years ago and never built the engine. now he wants to sell all of it for $1800. this is the list of parts. he also has all the barrings but they are not listed. what i am wondering, is this worth the money, and is there anything that is no good in this list of parts. he got every thing from mondello.

this is the list as he gave it to me.

1. Block 455 .040 “F” casting(out of 70 442)

9. Oil resrictor kit.(new) This goes in the #2,#3,#4 main bearing saddle to restrict oil flow to the top end. A must above 5000 RPM. For street or strip.
10. Complete Fel-Pro gasket set. With Perma-Torque head gaskets(new)
11. Engle racing cam 274*IN 284*EX .512”IN .523”EX 110* lobe centers.(new)
12. Engle racing lifters. Hydraulic HI-Rev. .842 Dia(new)
13. Chromolloy push rods.(new)

Seems very reasonable but not a screaming deal. I bought one very similar assembled for $1000 without extra intakes and valve covers. I guess you could sell what you don't need and get the cost down closer to 1K. But it sounds like you still need to assemble it. If it were me I would determine what I could sell and see what the bottom line is. I bought a 455 runner on Craigslist for $200 with E heads and it runs great. I honestly don't think it is a screaming deal, just reasonable.
IMHO

Wink

Hey man,I just paid 1200 for a simular package[mondello, rebuild kit, same engle cam]except,my heads are bare. There is a set of COMP roller rockers, new.Anyway,by the time i buy, springs, lifters, retainers, locks, valves.I'll have 1800 in it all.Not a bad deal at all,if there hard t o find where you are[455's ''f'' block/c heads]I think your ok if its what you need.
I dragrace some ,so this combos a little hotter t han what i have now.
I'd buy it and sell what you dont need.I need the left motor mount, more vibration, but i put a chain on my engine, picked up nearly a 10th in the 1/8 mile!Let it vibrate!I'd al iso be interested in the windage tray.Anyhow keep us posted,if you buy it or not. Thanks,BO

I have 2x that amount into a similiar combination that I pieced together myself because I didn't find a deal like this. I think it's a good one.

Yeah, when you start adding those individual pieces it really adds up.Not to mention ,its Mondellos stuff.Hey ,is your combo together yet?Be nice to see some numbers before hand.Maybe somthing youd've done differently.I plan on doing this build myself[first engine for me]so i'm looking for any tricks, tips that may help.I also plan on putting my progress in major builds ,think it'll help on advice and such.Later,BO

he don't have a carb with this engine. when i get a carb i am going to go with a Q jet. i am not looking for a long discussion on which is better, just like to know where to get a Q jet built correctly for my application. i am almost sure i will be buying it this weekend. i just want to make sure that he did not store it somewhere that had alot of humidity.

Hey,I don't know on the carb,i'm sure some guys run those performance rebuilt Qjets.I always had good luck with the older ones. These newer ones, the jurys still out.
About the humidity?I'm picking my block, crank, parts up this weekend.I know its been sitting there without oil on it a few months.I'm thinking it needs to go back to a machine shop to see whats been done already, any how. What kind of damage could have occured? It does have slight surface rust in the bores. It's inside a building,HELP!
