455 build
#41
That's tough to say but the 425 did have the Best factory BBO forged crank. I'm still a 455 fan with more cubes though. The aftermarket also has the most support for the bigger 455 which usually tells you it's the better of all of them!

Hello Everyone,
Just rebuild a 455 olds to put in my 79 t/a. the engine has
shallow dish pistons
stock c heads
valve job
290/300 voodoo cam
edelbrock 2516 intake
750 quick fuel dp
the problem im having is my oil keeps getting thinned out by gas? i have no idea where it could be coming from. but the engine runs for about 10 mins before the oil gets to thin and my pressure drops. any ideas?
thanks for the help!

Thanks for the reply ELY442. yes it does smell like gas, i have an electric holly fuel pump. I drained the oil and replaced the filter and it did it again. im not sure what could the be the problem

Sounds like the fuel is dumping into the clyinders because I assume the Carb is dumping raw fuel into the intake. Float is stuck open or too much fuel pressure is blowing by the needle and seat. What pressure is your electric pump putting out?

I think that's the problem as well! It's putting out 6 psi with the car not running. I keep forgetting to check it while it's running

X2 1968ragtop, that's what I'm planning on anyway. And with Mark doing his magic with iron heads, makes we wonder what he could do with my 65A heads instead of going with aftermarket aluminum? Over the years I have acquired a bunch good stuff for the build plus I will pull the performer, Meloden pan, HEI, Dean Oliver Q-jet, A-heads, headers, off the 67-400E. Sell the 400E.

rebuilding olds 455
hi guys. I'm new here. i have a 1974 "396021 FA" olds 455 which turns out to be the low compression engine. with J heads. my engine is all stock even stock intake stock rochester carb, no headers nothing. the trans is a th350 with shift kit and the rear gear ratio is 3.23. i live in Lebanon and i can't find any other heads than the ones I have. my goal is 300hp on the wheels. what is the right setup to rebuild my engine keeping the same heads. and also what can be done to improve the J heads...thank you

But you did !. A forum is to share ideas and hopefully learn and add to the discussion if we all adopted an attitude like that there would be no forum.
I'll admit when anyone posts to the Internet they can get a wide variety of responses, but I think most here only want to add their opinions and experiences to help others out....a thick skin is required.
