looking to buy a 1999 aurora, if this a good price
my grandfather is selling his car. and i'm wordering if this is a good price or not..
It is a 1999 Oldsmobile Aurora, 16 inch chrome wheels, Michelin ice tires, factory sunroof, 4 door, AM-FM, CD player with additional 12 pack CD player in trunk controlled from steering wheel, heating-air conditioing climate controled, heated seats, heated mirrors, power antenna, fully loaded. Mileage 235,000. Averages 32 miles gallon on computer readout. Extra clean. Northstar V-8 cadillac engine. No rust i'm from canada so i'm guessing the mileage is in Km. lol but who knows :P i think he is asking $5,000.00 Cnd. thanks for your opinion ![]() Last edited by maus1076; March 19th, 2008 at 03:27 PM.. |

I have no idea how the Canadian dollar compares to the US dollar. However, the Auroras are good cars. You just need to make sure the cooling system is in good shape. I have heard that the Dexcool can clog up the radiator and cause overheating problems.

One Canadian loony is equal to one Yankee Greenback these days. The Aurora (especially with the Northstar) are darn good cars--one of the best sedans GM made. I was tempted by them as well. But 235,000 kilometers (146,000 miles) is a lot. Be ready to spend a lot of time and money on this car--and these are not like a '72 Cutlass where parts are cheap and easy to replace. Kelly Blue Book shows a "private party" price for a "good" '99 Aurora at $3700. IF this will be your daily driver, remember they don't exactly sip petrol like a Honda Civic, either. I'm surprised by the 32 mpg average. Your grandfather must drive only on the highway and like a erm....uh...grandpa. And, while I'm thinking about it, if the fuel consumption is in miles, does that mean the odometer reading is in miles also?

Aurora
If you get $3000 for you Aurora, you did awesome. A red 98, that sold in S Portland AMine, (78,000 origanl miles) was under $2500.
I sold my green 95 Aurora (166,547 on the clock) last MAy for $700 |

My 2001 gets a solid 25 MPG on the highway, and about 18-22MPG around town. I really like driving the car but I find that tires all of the same type cuts road noise considerably.
Also the computer system in my car is unreliable - too many false indicator lights as well as bogus check engine lights. Spent quite a bit of money maintaining this car over the past 5 years in parts and labor expenses. Several repair shops will refer you to a Cadillac dealership, because little knowledge of the car and lack of tools. I don't know the exchange rate of the Canadian dollar verses the US, but would thnk if the car is clean and has been well maintained $4-5k US is not too bad a price for a car of its caliber. Frankly, even though I think this car is a beauty and like how it handles when all is humming nicely, I would not recommend it to someone who can't afford the upkeep.
