Engine Codes

My gf's 2004 Alero started showing a CEL this morning. It didn't come on when she started the car, but after the car had warmed up. When she left work this evening, it came on straight away. The car has the 4 cylinder engine. The car doesn's seem to have any driveability issues.

Also, are there any known issues or common issues I should be aware of or look for when I start troubleshooting?

At this point, I'm looking for the numeric codes so I can take it to Autozoo & have them pull the codes. I may have more questions after I establish what error code it is.

The L67 (2.2 Ecotec) motor you have is known to be a great motor with little to no problems.

Could be something stupid, but until you get it scaned you won't know what it is

What is a CEL? I have never heard that term before and I have been working with cars for awhile.

If your girlfriend's car has the check engine light illuminated then definitely take it to the auto parts store and have it scanned. It is an OBD 2 computer so they shouldn't tell you they don't have the connector.

Apparently you've only been working on old cars...

CEL = check engine light

I'm going to get the codes pulled today, but I'm still looking for a list of what the numeric codes mean. I trust the parts store to pull the codes, but not look them up.

DOH!

Actually, I consider myself better with newer cars than with older cars.

Thanks for everyone's help. The light went off Saturday evening as I was headed to the parts store to get the code checked. It's not been on since then and there seems to be no issue with driving.

I'm going to run it to the stealership sometime this week and have them pull the codes from the memory.
