Unhappy gas millage

hi guys. I just got a 2000 alero gl with 63000 miles on it. My gas millage is almost half of manufacturer's suggestd gas millage. what are the things to check before I make a dash to dealer.

Is the check/service engine light on or blinking?

O2 sensor, clogged air filter, clogged fuel filter, plugs, wires, airflow sensor, timing/cam/crank position sensor, clogged catalytic convertor...could be anything.

Most auto part store chains will read your OBD or OBD2 codes for free, then you can narrow it down!

New Plugs, fuel filter, new air filter, cloged PCV valve, heavy foot?

Pull the hose off of the fuel pressure regulator and see if gas comes out of it. If so it needs to be replaced, I've seen a few or these

start off simple... check the air and fuel filters first.. if it were a plug or wire misfirng and ck engine light would be on. i assume the light is not on right?
