here is the intake im putting on the 455 going into my torque machine tell me what you think.

455 bored 30 over with big valve c heads fresh stock internals, magnum muscle 280h comp cam, 1442-kit comp cams valve train kit, matching comp cam springs, im still looking for a hei distributer and a carb but yea she will scream lol

Sounds lie a nice combo except for the cam. You might want to think about using a dual pattern one as even ported Olds exhaust ports aren't the most efficient. Just a thought.

 

Did you buy it yet?

We did back to back testing at the track using an edelbrock Performer, and a Crosswind.
The crosswind wasn't any better than a regular old Performer.

How does that compare to the Ed. Performer in price and performance?
Is that a square bore the Holley will fit with out an adapter plate? (am I getting my terminology wrong?)

yes it will fit a holley i got the holley 770 street avenger and it fits right on. the edlebrock os a lil cheaper but i read its more for top end where the crosswind is more torque

 

Were both setups optimized (advance, jets, etc) for that application? Were the air density (altitude) numbers corrected?

Not when measured on a flow bench.

In a running engine, there is a big pressure (higher pressure = higher flow) difference between the intake and the exhaust. Only one of many factors involved in a cam choice.

But I have never "talked" to any big name cam grinders or engine builders, and I do not work in a machine shop.

I used this same intake on the 455 I built for my 64. It feels plenty pucnchy off the bottom with a nice linear powerband up to 5800 or so. Im using a Mondello 22-25 cam with it and running about 9.7-1 compression. I have a torker to try later if I want but so far im happy with it.
