Welcome to the group, Shawn!

What kind of V8 are you swapping in? I assume the 307 is in it now, replacing the original V6?
You will find a lot of info here and also check out oldsgmail.com, as they specialize in the Olds g-body.
Keep up posted with your progress!

I remember learning to drive on an 87 Camaro (with a 350) at Sears driving school long ago... That was one cool car; they had Mustangs, also. I loved it when they "made" you get on it when entering a freeway! Nowdays the driving schools use little crap-cars...

well while iam here i have a tech wiring/engine question would the wiring for the water temp, battery, oil pressure still be the same now that i swapped over to a v8 ?
b/c when i got the car none of the gauges work thers a bunch of wiries in a bundle on the drives side and the connector are shot too ! the only thing that work were the head lights and the eletrical fan the car ran great loud as a 747 i named it the battery killer lmao ! any help would be helpful thanks in advance !

Welcome to our site. Not sure but I am thinking the harness would be different from a 260 to a 307 but just guessing. You may have some work ahead of you but if you are swapping an engine it should not be as hard to do while the engine is out.

thanks i ment the hookups on the engine fron the wiring harness ! b/c when i ran the vin it said the car came with a v6 but when the first swap was done they dropped the v8 in and didn't use these wires ! so to speak hypathecally what if the car came with a v8 and the dash was from a v6 car where else would i look too confirm it's a v8 or a v6 car ?

You can tell she has sat in the sun, but over all is not a bad project at all. If I found something like that up here, I'd be all over it. Good find and welcome to the site.

onecutlass,

It looks like you have a good project on your hands! In all of your "bad" shots, I did not see too much rust at all - very good.
It looks like most of your issues are cosmetic which which will be easier to fix. One nice thing (sort of) is that this is a new enough year that salvage yards will still have some of these cars.

As for your wiring harness, I would find a car in a yard with a 307 and yank the front harness that connects right up to the firewall connection at the fuse block. It will be compatible with other Olds V8's also. That would cost next to nothing if you buy some other parts, providing it is a good yard... The VIN will have an "engine digit" that will ID your original engine.

One thing I would do is to lose that rubber fuel line with the inline filter if it is on the pressure side of the fuel pump. I have seen too many rupture, which can cause engine fires.

Make sure to get a chassis service manual first - it will be your most valuable tool.

Are you planning on a full restoration, a daily driver, or ??
Thanks for saving this one!

it's gonna be a daily drive for now but a resto is in order when i get a better job and garage (LOL) well the bad side is most of the yards here have been spanked by the EPA so it 92 and up they crush everything else than comes in if it totaled ! so it makes it hard to find parts it took me about 6 months to finds a good runnin 307 engine ! this town swears by chevy 350 but iam savin uo for a 403 or a olds 350 rocket ! so i have to find patrs online in fourms and websites!
as much trouble as this thing has been to me it makes me love her more and more lol
thanks for the info and bout the wiring harness and the fuel lines ! thanks again guys !

I loved having dirt clod wars! When they are just right it looks like a big puff of smoke when they hit. Sorry, you hung that one right in the strike zone.

I have a console just like that in my Astro Van, I can't drive without it. I have to do the Detroit lean when I'm stylin' on the streets.

A mistress is like that. Always a little tarnished with their hand in the pocket the holds your wallet. In your eyes they shine while always asking for more. Ah but we all love them anyway
