Question Should I keep the 307 or uprgrade to 350

Just found out that the 1980 Cutlass that I have is a 307,should I keep it or get a 350.Thanks

Oh another thing any suggestions on this car would be great far as headers, exhaust, intake, etc.

And a good place to get some parts would be very helpful.

Go to the 350. Eveything on your 307 will bolt up to the 350 also. 307 isn't worth upgrading

Get new motor mounts for your 1980 Cutlass, not the kind of car the 350 comes out of. All SBO are externally the same

Easy swap

I agree with Redog. A 350 will be much better than a 307. Check out Summit for parts.

x5 on the 350. Look for an 72 or earlier engine, or at least early heads. The chamber size on 73 and latter heads got huge and will result in a poor compression ratio.

why not go with a 455. it's only a little more money to build.

iirc a 455 will drop right in. you need to get the engine with the accessory brackets , the exhaust manifolds and the crossover pipe as they are different. Im sure someone will chime in on which headers would fit the best. Also if you run headers on either engine you will probally need a double hump crossmember. summit and others have them

403s are excellent motors as well. They are just a little bit harder to find than a 350.

You just have to watch the height and width on a 455.

a 455 is 2 inches higher and 2 inches wider than the small blcok

I think I might have a full set of "clip on" center caps for those Oldsmobile wheels if you are interested.

350 would be the easiest to swap in.

Love the velour interior.

As long as the car runs and drives, use what you got. When the pup finally give up the ghost...Thats another story. There is nothing wrong with a small engine in a daily driver, done right a 350 will outperform a 307 any day probably with better economy. the only 307 I've ever ran was an odd duck Chevy, and that info came from the previous owner of an early '70's truck, I never confirmed it.

After looking at the pics, I'm guessing that unit is a project already, if so then I recant last post and vote 350 or 403 if you can find one. Nice ride don't see too many of those around here anymore.
