Air intake, air temp sensor.

Hi to everyone, looking around for parts supplier and found out the 3.5L as an air temperture sensor and sense it is located in the air intake, can I guess this senor would in some way regulate the amount of fuel consumed at a given weather temperture? Still looking for reason for very poor winter fuel milage. Anyone Know about this sensor? Happy New Year and God Bless.
