Phill, '56 was a very good year for Oldsmobile and I really like the body style of the 88 that year.

Dan, I understand. One site cannot be everything for everyone. Trying to cover Oldsmobile products over the entire range would be very difficult. And member driven sites are just that, driven by the membership. I am sure if more people with interests like yours had joined at an earlier time and participated more, this site would look very different. It seems like the interest in fifties models has increased just recently, and interest in the post 80s models has always been scarce here.

 

To get ideas. Learn things I didn't know and that I need to know. Dream about the cars I could own If only I had the money and space. Try and check every day.

I check this site out a few times a day so I can fill my empty head with more information about Oldsmobiles. Some of it is very usefull and some is just useless information that makes me sound like I know what I am talking about when I meet a Buick guy at the local car show.

It is also good to know that if I do need any info on where to buy parts or how to fix the car when i breaks, there is a great group of car guys willing to help me out just because I have an Oldsmobile.
There is no stereotyping or racism here just a good 'ol bunch a guys (and girls?)

Secondly I am just addicted to my cars more than I ought to be. (according to my better half anyways)

 

i have always liked the big starfires ,had one when i was 20,i have three now , 2 parts cars ,and one i have been restoring for 2 years,i searched for them for 30 years , before things worked out ,to me this site is great ,when i run into some thing i can,t remember ,or never knew, i always get the help i need on this site,and like i say ,just reading about oldsmobile, make me feel good,so thats why i try to check the site every day, thanks to all involved !

 

I'm pretty new to the site and it's just unreal, all the info and cool stuff here about Oldsmobiles. It's good to know that if I have a question, and I've got a bunch of them, that I can probably find an answer, and several different theories is always okay.

I use the site because, simply put, it's awesome! I've been restoring my Olds for 9 months now and all of the experienced people on here have helped me out a lot along the way. I sincerely thank everyone who has.

I've also been able to share some of my own experiences based on the things I've learned from my project.

Finally, there are a lot of great looking cars, good opinions, and cool ideas that I wouldn't have thought of on my own. This is one of my favorite websites to visit at work when things get a bit stressful.

 

Lots of good info and layed back nature of the members, seldom a contencious post. Much akin to a mopar site i frequent.

 

I use this site to see what Norm is going to say next to get in trouble. Its always fun to read some of the replys he gets. Oh, and I also learn things about Oldsmobiles because I now own 2 of them

There seems to be some baiting on the 442 board. If any attempt is made to help others, there's usually a contradictory remark. It seems the more the site grows, the more antogonistic some people become.

 

Law of percentages there, bigger board membership, bigger chance of some disagreements.

 

I like using this message board because I can make WILD UNSUBSTANTIATED remarks about Oldsmobiles that people will take for facts.

This 1968 Oldsmobile 442 Hurst W-30 was 1 of -e made.

 

You always were the trouble maker, why, I remember your sixth grade summer "my dad can beat up your dad". Man, that black eye really hurt for a long time.

 

Don't post much but use the site for much info. Most things I want to know have already been asked, so I just due a search for the information and save the duplication.

 

I am new to Olds and am pretty darn happy with my really tired 2 bbl single (rusty)exhaust 425 Cutlass . I bought the car with some extras, '2' 455's T350 etc. Its just sitting waiting its turn . So I dont post much until I have something that triggers a question.
I do like this site , faster than a local Volvo site I lurk but alot slower than say 67-72chevytrucks.com

 

I get on here because you can different people's opinions on Olds 442's, which are the best cars ever made. I am on grabberorange.net because I just bought a 2K8 Mustang GT. I would have bought a brand-new 442 if GM wouldn't have gotten rid of them. Biggest mistake they ever made. I still own my 1st ever car, a 1986 Olds 442 and hope to add either a 1965 or a 1970 442 to my household one day. Maybe both if I'm lucky.

As you can see below I have made a couple BIG mistakes

 

I use this site to recieve and give information, not to mention make friends, you guys are all awesome, and i would be dead in the water with my beloved oldsmobile if it werent for you. I try to get on as often as i can, usually the only time i can though is when im at work! lol. shh! :P

 

I've been a member just a couple of months and enjoy reading the restoration stories.

 

I check in pretty much every day.
I joined this site for the knowledge and experience of like minded Olds lovers.
I also belong to www.mercurycougar.net for the same reasons.
Over time you tend to develop relationships with fellow members as well, even if you never meet them in person.

I'm not sure you still want replys to your original message, but from someone that just purchased their 1st classic olds and knows just about nothing about it, I think it is a fantastic site. I have gotten good feedback on several questions I have asked. I hope someday I will be able to contribute some answers, but for now I will just welcome newbies, as well as I was welcomed recently.

I am here to offer anything that I know about Oldsmobiles or cars in general, to learn more about Oldsmobiles, to share my Oldsmobile with other Oldsmobile guys, and to see other guys cars - you can see a car show without leaving your computer!! - it is also nice meeting new people and developing new friendships!!

 

i am still new to computers. if i had known about this site i would have got a computer much sooner. i like the information and giving any info i can. i have learned that other people on here know far more about hoping up an olds engine than i do. i just build stockers and will be soon building a hoped up 455 and sure i will need info. i like to buy and sell parts on here also i am on here every day i can and get excited to hit that New Post section. so many nice people on here i just like being a part of it.

 

Well, since there are already 3 other new posts today, I'll jump in. I have an interest in these cars and like seeing what others are doing. I generally have a pretty good feeling about the comments and the helpfulness of the regulars. I don't like a bunch of drama and think I would be a pretty good fit with the tone of this forum. I don't usually have much to say, but tune in regularly. I usually keep one forum up for my Cutlass, one for my bike, and one for my Camaro. Thanks.

 

The benefit of this site is sharing what we may know and learning from others. Regardless of how much we "Think" we know or how many manuals we may have we may not know everything there is to know about our Oldsmobile.

Forums like this are a boon to the sadly lacking knowledge pool on Oldsmobiles. I hope the Oldsmobile Wiki site continues to be developed.
I do think the general knowledge base is much better now than it was many years ago. But the efforts to solidify it as much as possible needs to continue. Especially in regards to whats in the heads of the older guys that had first hand experience from the past! We need to document everything we can.
The information is like the cars: We are not owners, we are caretakers. The cars and the information will still be here long after we are gone.

 

I joined this site because I belong to a tbird forum for my daily driver, and it was really helpful. At 17 I completed an engine swap going from a v6 to a v8. The site was really helpful and it was easier to find the parts that I needed.

I joined this site in paticular because where it siad "classic" in the url I figured there wouldn't be a lot of people with pimped out auroura's and bravada's. I wanted a place to ask for help and questions. I belong to the local chapter of the Olds club of America, but I feel kinda bad posting a mass email on something like the correct gap for the spark plugs, but here, that kind of a question is totally welcome.

Besides, I like seeing what people are working on and so forth. With the club, all you see if the begining(maybe) and the end result of a 50k resto(which I don't have)

 

I joined because of a old car my Grandfather thought enough of me to leave it to me I stay and read post's along with my Hubby cause you guys are the greatest even though I might or my husband might have dumb questions you guys and girls always answer without saying find the answer somewhere else

 

Nice of you to ask! I joined because I will need help after I get my Cutlass...and that might be a while...$$, so...Maybe I joined a litlle bit too early. Thanks to all. Oh, first post in five weeks or so.

Input needed on the car search: I have found a non-runner in OK, looks complete, matching #'s, clean title, some body damage (pass. door and bumper),hope no frame damage-what is a dead give away on frame damage? I plan to go look at it...and take an experienced body and paint man to look at with me. The guys wants $1,800. Pictures look OK, but need to see it in person. I am thinking about $500 flat out. Will need engine rebuild. Any thoughts, things to really look close at? Please advise....!

 

I checked this site daily for 9 month for help in restoring my 1970 442 before I recently joined. I posted a few questions on a 442 site and was put down for not knowing the answers. Also the less the friendly folks that seam to run the show.

I have been treated very friendly here and people are kind. I'm not a mechanic and need help from time to time not to be put down.

look for rust in the fender wells, trunk, crawl under the car and look for rust on the frame rails floor pans, etc. Taking a guy with you who knows cars well will be a big help.

Well, I just love my Oldsmobiles!!!! I also get ideas and lots of help when I need need to fix something or I just get excited to see what someone else is working on.

Wow! This is an old original thread that's been revived twice?!
I joined mostly to learn and contribute when I can.
I use to go to some other Olds forums but there was more bickering, ridicule and bashing on other people than you can shake a stick at! Got sick of it!! No need for it!

ClassicOldsmobile.com has class! The moderators and members here make sure of it.
I visit here everyday several times when I'm layed off (like now) and as often as I can when I'm working (hopefully this spring). I have fun here, learn alot here from some great people, put in my 2 cents and contribute when I feel like I can help.

Hope I get to meet alot of you at the OCA Nats this year!

 

This site has been invaluable to me and my project.
It does not seem to matter what question I ask there is always some one with an answer. I wish I could offer more help but until I reach that level of knowledge I feel very fortunate to be a member and have all of you at my disposal.
Looking forward to meeting some of you at the Nationals this summer.

I am on here everyday because if I wasen't able to ask all my dumb questions, I would be screwed! I know they are not dumb (at least most of them) just lack of experience. I am 28, and this has only been my second older car, and first Oldsmobile. If I was not able to be on this site all the time, I would have NEVER been able to get as far as I have with my Cutlass. Thanks very much!!

 

I know I have learned a lot and have made really good friends. This is one of the best sites out there. I always start here and end here when I'm on the computer.
