ok im new here and dont have a pile of extra $$$ like alot of people being 19 and have paying for a new truck , so are their any mods i can do engine wise to my 307 that will make it a little more powerful? i plan on the true duals and possably a 3:23 posi if i can find one, so any ideas? maybe a cam? the loopyness dont bother me nor do sound common with the info!

 

Sounds like you have a good idea for a start. A cam change might involve a little more work since you have to pull the radiator, timing cover, timing chain and gears, intake, pushrods and lifters. It might be easier to do an induction/intake change instead and possibly a little cheaper depending on what you buy. Duals sounds like a good idea and if you can change the rear gears too, go for it. It boils down to what good deals you find first as to where your moola goes. BTW, you don't have to be 19 to be on a budget. I am 50 and still paying for my daughter's college, have a mortgage and car payments so I hear ya!

Since you are strapped for cash, you could get the generic 204/214 cam and lifters. It is an okay low/mid range cam. Also some 1 5/8 headers would be okay too. Gearing and a 350 or a 403 would do the most though.

 

You can do it, but I'd wait. For the $$$ you're going to put into labor and parts, you could get a 350 Olds and swap that. Throw in a nice cam and some 5a heads (you might already have them on a 84 Delta)

 

Redog has a point, if the engine is out of the car and you might be able to find another easily. I was being friendly and kind, figuring you just wanted to freshen/awaken up the 307 without major work. If the engine is already out of the car, well..............

I have an 85 Delta and I'll be beefing it up in a few years. I drag the car though.

I was going to do a 455, but the extra weight added to the front end, plus the nill ava of heavy duty springs for the front of a B-Body.

You could go to Mondello and pick up a JM 18-20 or a JM 22-25 cam but you will need to upgrade the srping valves, push rods, and the rockers. Comp Cams have smaller cams for the Olds V8 Family, if you want to keep it smaller. They also sell an entire kit with the cam, rockers, and roller timing chain and all the other goodies you need to help you out. You can get them at Summit Racing

307 engine detail

you have a "Y" motor, they talk about putting in a cam from the "9" motor which is that from a Cutlass 442, but the best your going to get is 180 hp. with a lot of other 9 motor goodies. Spend the same money on a "395558" 350 Olds motor (1968 to 1972) and you'll have more power, and a ton more room to play with

If you just want a beefed up crusier that will probably see little to no track time, any olds 350 will do the trick
