What happened here? Verified 70 W30 in seemingly good shape only $40k?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Oldsmob...-/181935024884

Original listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Oldsmob...p2047675.l2557

Thoughts on this one? Seems like he had a matching numbers car. A little low on the price?

Well I know you always take a chance when listing on eBay with no reserve, but this was a surprise to me.

Anybody using "she" and "her" in an ad is an idiot, IMO. It's probably not a real one.

Seems low-ish to me too, but we have to remember that it's not Barrett-Jackson every day out there in the real world!

Trim card looked legit. I agree about the "she" and "her" thing, though -- that probably cost the guy $10K right there.

It does have the incorrect '71-'72 fenders & a few other nit pick things but looks like a real nice car. To correct the fenders would probably cost another few grand though. Would like to know what trans, rear end, & all floors looked like? Maybe there were undisclosed issues? Still looks like a lot of car for the money.

Yep caught that car a couple of weeks back, like Scott I spotted the fenders no radiator seals "survivor/unmolested". The person does not know the difference between a broadcast card and a build sheet!

How much does a replacement fender hurt the value of a 70 car? Seems to me those would be correct dealer replacement parts.....

Looks like something funky going on with the fit on the deck lid. Maybe just the picture?

Maybe it's the yellow raised letters or lack of the mandatory rear spoiler that held it back. (Sarcasm).

The spoiler that spoiled the deal.

I suppose I was just shocked at the way they did the listing. eBay does not have the traffic anymore to do no reserve on items like this. The market still has the demand, but they probably would have done way better at a regular auction where people can physically see the car.

For me, it would be an indicator that the car isn't quite as original as represented and I'd be wondering what else isn't as it seems.

"Unmolested front to back", but reported as 107,000 miles...a lot of the rest of the car doesn't look like a 107,000 mile car...condition of decals and so forth. Yes, very nice looking car, it's just "little" things like that tend to get my spidey senses tingling.

Wow , this beauty would have been fun to collect information on ..
Seems like " Mark " the seller has a talent for colorful automotive phrasing . My first question would have been ? " Could I speak with " Kevin " that was listed on the Engine and trans. rebuild from PSI Automotive Support Group from Sterling Heights Michigan , in 1999 ? Seems like a long distance to send an engine on a lifelong Central Florida car ? But , it all seems to make sense , the Raised Yellow Lettered Goodyear # 1. were discontinued about 1999 . I would bet that Kevin , the restorer perhaps , bought the tires about the same time the " restoration " was done ..

What shocks me is that 57 bidders did not ask one question of S 40 Collection of Automotive Americana , that is evident on the rear license plate cover ... Yikes .
Could it be a nice 1970 , 442 , with a 16 yr old , fresh engine , trans , paint , and tires ? Absolutely .. I wish all the best to the new owner , and hope he or she ends up here to share a story or two.. There are many ways to describe , build , and sell cars ..
My .02 .. JT

It's a nice car no doubt. One I would like to own. But I have one already that will run the doors off that one. So.....not interested. But I do like it.

For a car represented as unmolested, how is it missing the center radiator support hood stop/bumper?

The door card emblems are from a cutlass S not a 442.
You can add this to the unmolested list.

Just to show you guys I've learned a little since December of last year I'll point out a few other things:

"S" door badges
ignition
air cleaner label
positive battery cable routing
