This OH transmission is out of his 1969 H/O, car #355. The shifter I would believe is the same but I believe should be verified too so if you have any ideas how I can confirm it is a 1969 H/O then I'm all ears. Like I said, the design seems to match the one on eBay, but I should probably verify further.

That didn't even cross my mind. You have a GREAT car and excited to see what you do with it. Do you want to trade it for a restored 70 W-30

Definitely a 69 H/O shifter. Do you also have the console with it?

I like the way you think. But my mother in law would kill me and then my wife would drive the car. Not sure I can trust her in RWD with so much HP.

I'd rather you be my next door neighbor and help me work on this thing. The house right next to me is for sale and has a 3 car garage with a lift. Move here now.

Just went back through some of your restoration thread again. Still impressed.

The woodgrain on the dual gate appears to match the 70 interior. Here is what the '69 woodgrain looks like.

Maybe ordered it...doesn't look cobbled in. Dealer could have done it. Uses a different cable them a normal console. If you pull the carpet, it may give you more clues. A different console would have brackets attached to the floor pan. Or at least evidence of brackets.

This is true. I'm going out to the car now to get a better pic of that top plate.

I had a 70 442 W-30 Rally Red original paint car from California back in 2004. 20,000 mile drag car. Engine, trans and rear end were long gone. Sure wish I hadn't sold that car!

Nice. Mine still has the original stickers inside the trunk lid. I'll take a pic sometime. Was surprised how good they looked. Goodyear Polyglas in there too. Guess I have a ton of pictures I still need to take.

i left the card in my 66 GS 3 speed stick post car...the car is a low mile stripper with mint interior. the car is stored inside, climate controlled etc. Last year i saw a shred of paper on the carpet..and pulled the seat...my mint card was in a pile in the corner of the floor pan ripped in 1/2 by 1/8 shreds in a nice circle embedded with seat cotton and mouse turds....as in a mouse nest...

believe me the car is mouse proofed etc....never again...i pulled them out of a couple other cars i own, make a copy...put the copy in a bag and put it in the car,,the real ones are in a firebox...safely tucked away

now way would i ever had thought i would loose it...and bad thing is..no pics..no nuttin...i just flat lost it....luckily, GS is in the VIN..but i have never seen another..

So what is everyone's opinion on this? I know we were tossing around if it was a factory auto vs manual trans car before. Do these pics confirm that it was always an auto or is there something else I need to take pics of?

Also here are a few more pics of things like the carpet tag, which I'm unsure if this is original carpet or not, did a search on the company "Fraser Products" and didn't come up with anything. It is lightly stamped 1968. Also a pic of the Polyglas and trunk lid stickers. Anti-spin.

That is almost exactly what the underside of my trunk looks like on my F-85 W-31. Is the spare wheel an XT code wheel by the valve stem and the tire a G-70 14? Does your right rear trunk ledge/step have 2 clips to hold the jack handle?

Yes, the tire is the size you mentioned.

Here is what I found:

The XT wheel looks to be dated over 3 months before the build date of your car. The step I am talking about is the step on each side of the trunk latch. If your car was a steel wheel dog dish car originally it will not have clips or holes for the clips on the step to the right side of the trunk latch.

Do you have a pick of the ledge just to right of the latch that you have pictured?

Like how many inches to the right of the latch? I can get one. Good thing about having it ten steps away.

If your car came with SSI or SSII wheels from the factory, the jack handle was clipped into 2 spring clips that were mounted on that ledge. If your car does not have these clips or the 2 holes where the clips were screwed dow, then your car was probably a steel wheel dog dish cap optioned car.

I guess that would depend on how well you like a car equipped with dog dish caps. I love the look myself!

XT code wheels were the correct wheels for running dog dish but were also used in full hubcap/wheelcover applications on 442, etc. Do you have any pics of the car when it was new?

I don't have any pics of it when new. The original title date was 11/69 and my father in law didn't own it until 1973.

Looks like you had some version of the steel wheels. As you can see from the pic from Chad they can look awesome. The clips are on the passenger side of the inside lip of the trunk. Doesn't look like you have them though. The tough part now, the XT rims are commanding a premium. Although you have a documented W30 I for one still go by the axiom "try to keep it as original as possible but do what needs to be done to enjoy it." I have no idea what rims came on the convertible but my hardtop has an order form, says it came with SSIs but I got it with SSIIs. I want to put SSIs back on but that will be one of the last expenditures I do - unless I find a set for a great price.

E.G. I went out of my way to find 15 inch bolt-on center SSIIs for my convertible. To me it made a big difference in handling and ride comfort yet from the casual (or the many supposed "experts" out there) perspective they look 100% original from 10 feet away. I also have some repo parts on my car as that was the quickest easiest way to enjoy the car for now.

You have a dream car here, the history is the most important part of it, if I could find my dads 1971 Lime Green Cutlass S I'd give up the W30 in a heartbeat. And you have an absolute incredible starting point. Enjoy the ride!!!

I bet you would trade. That would be an amazing find. The history is the great part.

Aside from the lack of clips or place to put them, we do need to keep in mind that he owned another 70 W30 and that 69 Hurst. My guess is the spare in the trunk isn't from the H/O, but it could be from the other W30. I have the Protect-o-plate from that car and it was stamped December 1969. Is that the date the owner bought the car or the date the car was produced?

POP is date of original purchase not when car was built. My F-85 W-31 was built first week of December 69 but was not sold until December 70 which is what is on the POP.

Just ran it on google and nothing. If anyone knows someone with a 1970 W30 with the last 3 of the VIN at: 314, let me know. Proof will be required before mailing.

Ok, did some work tonight. Didn't think I was going to because our pool contractor left a razor knife in a bag and I cut my finger bad yesterday. But the show must go on...

Pics of gas tank removed (no docs found but some writing on the tank), muffler back exhaust holy batman, and some floor mats to probable various oldsmobiles.

I was hoping you would find some paperwork! This is a little late but here is a pic of the clip for the Jack handle on my 70 W-31.
