'70 rear speaker correct part number
Hello, I am trying to figure out what is the correct part number that would be ink stamped on the speaker magnet of a rear speaker on a 1970 Holiday Coupe (hardtop)?

Your Product Information Manual, section 1-4, page 132, shows Speaker Asm 7300614, with an alternate of 396548. I think that often, when alternates are called out like this, it's because the non-Lansing plants might have used the alternate part. But I have no proof of this for the speaker.
I have two original speakers in my possession. One, which is NOS from the early '70s, came in a box I purchased at OCA Homecoming in Lansing several years ago. It's a kit allowing someone to retrofit the rear speaker into a car not originally equipped. It includes the speaker, a grill (since that car would not have the correct perforated package tray), fader **** for the radio, wire, and miscellaneous nuts, bolts, and clips. It's Group 9.665, #982986. The speaker inside has the rectangular magnet and is stamped with part number 7300614.
I also have a used speaker removed from a car. It has a smaller, round magnet and is stamped with part number 396548. So that accounts for both of them!
If you want the details about where the stamps are, other markings, and fonts, let me know.

Per the PIM, no insulation packed cardboard box baffle was used from the factory for the rear speaker?

You might be onto something here. I have noticed that most '70 442 part numbers are either 404xxx or 406xxx. I know most of the part numbers for my '70 Chevelle were 396xxx.

I've never heard or seen of such a thing, but a previous owner installed an aftermarket speaker in my '70, so I can't use it as a reference. Anyone else want to chime in?

I have noticed that many restoration catalogs are marketing these cardboard baffles as being for the 1970 rear speaker.

I've never seen a box/baffle on an original 68-72 Cutlass/442. Yes, they sell them, just like they sell the square, blue, door jamb GM decals for ALL 68-72 cars. You have to do your own research, sellers just want to sell.

Rear speaker "box"
Actually started watching the forums again just a few days ago & will try to contribute as I finally have a bit of time. The speaker is not boxed or insulated on 1970 4-4-2 and the correct factory installed part no. would be 7300614.
