i cant reach the engine id on the block due to dust on it. The engine is in a 1976 olds 442 and i can't recognize it if it is a 350 or a 455.
Thanks for your help

Hi. Welcome to ClassicOlds!

What country are you from?

Why do you think your Oldsmobile has a Buick engine?

Could you post a couple of photos of it?

Note on the Buick engines the distributor is on the front of the engine and fuel pump is on the left. I'm not sure if the Buick is the same as Olds as far as the difference between the SB and BB is basically deck height.
Buick 350

Buick 455

Olds 350

Olds 455

I've had some researches and noticed that my engine is a buick. Maybe the previous owner replaced the original engine with a buick. The distributor is in the front and the fuel pump on the left of the engine so i am sure it is a buick.

The casting numbers are on the rear of the block behind the manifold.

As Eric said, Buick engines had a cast number corresponding to the displacement on the rear shelf, just forward of the transmission.

Since I'm an Oldsmobile guy, I didn't know that. I had to Google it.

I have had good luck with Google searches of casting ID numbers... of course you have to know where to find these casting ID numbers. Remove dust and dirt as required.
