Engine Paint
Engine Paint
I just joined the forum so please forgive me if I ask a question that has been answered before. I tried the search function and yet no luck. (I'm a slow learner). I intend to clean up the engine bay on my numbers matching '70 442 Holiday Coupe (455 cu.in.) and want to duplicate the engine paint to original (factory). Are block, valve covers, manifold and aircleaner all one color? Is it possible for someone to forward me a link to a photo showing how it should look? PM is ok, and thanks in advance for any and all help.

To continue the discussion; does someone have a link to a photo showing the metallic blue paint? My son and I did a test shot and BOY is it metallic blue! We got the paint from the reccomended supplier. I would feel better if I could see a photo of a concourse car or at least a factory correct painted engine before I continue painting.
Question: Should the oil fill tube and cap be taken out and not painted blue? I know it's common practice to paint them, but were they painted from the factory?
i've attempted to attach an underhood shot of our untouched '72 442 with 4k miles. i hope the photo shows up..... i've made a really nice, exact reproduction of engine code decals for the oil fill tube. so far i have applications for '70 and '71 442's / w30's and a '70 w31. pm or email me for more info.

70 455 engine color
not that I'm as seasoned as many of the guys on this forum, but I have been doing a lot of research while restoring a 70SX with a 455. I bought my paint from Brothers Automotive http://www.oldsparts.com and I have to say it is a perfect match compared to the original color.
I also have seen where the oil fill tubes (and caps) have been painted and that is how I restored this engine.
I've attached a picture that may help you. Note that the balancer is blue -the pullys are black and have not been put on at the time of this picture.
I also want to add that I forgot to have the thermostat housing on when I painted. I believe that it too should be blue.
Best of luck,
Dan
